Please provide a full posyt code so that we can look up the expected reception at your location. Without that we have no idea which of the over 1100 transmitters your might be trying to use.

Paul:

Now 80's is broadcast on COM8 from Hannington, which is just 20 km away from you and you are predicted to get good reception of all the multiplexes. Do you get More4+1 on programme 86? If so then you should be getting programme 88 as it's on the same multiplex. If not, then do you get any of the HD programmes? If not then your equipment may not be suitable for receiving HD services. Some of the services on COM7 or COM8 are not HD but you need equipment capable of receiving Freeview HD to get any of the programmes on those multiplexes.

Michael Hampton:

That is because the Bridport transmitter is a 'Freeview Light' type. That is because the commercial broadcasters will not pay to have their programming broadcast from that transmitter, as with many others around the UK. Most of the commercial channels require there to be a 'return on investment' from any of their operations and if the area covered by a transmitter has too few potential customers for their advertising they will not pay to transmit.

There is little likelihood that any of those channels will change their policy in the future.

Duncan Andrew:

You can go to the Digital UK Coverage Checker at Digital UK - Coverage checker put in your full post code, select the Detailed vierw and add a house number/name. Then you will be shown a listing of the transmitters and an indication of the available at your location with some hgint as to the reliablilityy of the reception.

The South Molton area is covered by the Huntshaw VCross transmitter, as used by my brother, but if you are not in Souyth Molton you may be served by a differnet transmitter so do as suggested above.

If you are getting East Midlands programmes then you are receiving from the Waltham transmitter and not Sutton Coldfield as that only broadcasts West Midlands programming. The coverage prediction for your new location shows that all the available transmitters are unlikely to give you anything like reliable or even full range of channels. Though Ripley is a very nice location, it is not ideal for TV reception (I used to live in the Vale of Belvoir so knew the area quite well.)

My suggestion would be to use Freesat for which there is no subscription. You will need a satellite dish to be fitted, in your location is should be a 60cm size as anything smaller will give problems. It should be fitted with a good quality LNB with at least two feed cables to the location of a new Freesat receiver. That will give you almost all of the programmes available on Freeview, it will not require any subscription (unlike Sky) and allow you to view the programmes you want. Have the dish professionally installed but don't accpet a small 45cm dish else you will have reception problems when it rains or snows.

Have you thoroughly checked all your aerial cables and connections? Have you unplugged the coaxial plugs/sockets and refitted them? Is there a 4G mast in the vicinity? Please provide a full post code so that we can look at the predicted reception conditions at your location.

Stuart :

Do you get any of the other programmes carried on the COM4 (SDN) multiplex? Do you get Drama, 5USA, E4 Wales, etc? If so you should be getting the Paramount network as it on the same group of programmes on channel 42 at 641.8 MHz. Check the signal strength on that multiplex reported by your TV set but DO NOT RETUNE.

Please provide a full post code so that we can check the expected reception at your particular location. There is no reported problem with the Waltham transmitter at this time. If there were, then thousand of complaints would have been posted.

Meanwhile, please carefully chaclk all your aerial cables and the connections. Unplug the coaxial plugs/sockets and refit them. Then check the signal strengths shown on your TV. DO NOT RETUNE. In fact, retuning as you have was the worst thing you could have done.

NasS:

According to the Digital UK Coverage Checker you should be getting a good reliable signal from the Crystal Palace transmitter, see Coverage Checker - Detailed View The signal from the Guildford transmitter is shown as very unreliable. So please ensure you are tuned to the signal from Crystal Palace. Your aerial should be aimed at a bearing of 68 degrees and be a wideband type. The channels to be tuned to are: 23, 26, 30, 25, 22, 28, 55 and 56. Also check the signal strengths of all the multiplexes you are receiving, they should ideally be between 60% and 85%, if they are less than 60% then you need a higher gain aerial, if they are more than 85% then you need to fit some attenuation as it is too strong. Both of these situations can cause the problems you report.
