Rowridge (Isle Of Wight, England) transmitter
Thursday 12 September 2013 8:46PM

Mel: Please also note that engineering works have been (and still are) taking place at the Rowridge transmitter over the last couple of weeks or so and which could result in the disruption of services, e.g: possible weak signals or breaks in transmission etc, and if anyone carries out a retune whilst any of those two possibilities mentioned are actually taking place then this is very likely to result in no signal being received.

It should also be pointed out, that if at any time selecting a programme channel results in a blank screen then you should resist the temptation to carry out a retune, as all that's achieved by "not" doing is the wiping out of everything already stored in the tuners memory, this then creating the situation whereby its necessary to carry out rescans in an attempt to recover the lost channels which would have returned of their own accord anyway.

John: Film4 (15) recently moved to the PSB2 mux as used by ITV1, 791 being from its original COM6 mux although selecting it may result in a blank screen, you should carry out a "first time installation" in order to solve the problem, this also known as "factory reset" / "default setting" or some other similar term.

Helen Williamson: Irrespective of the appearance or whether you can see it or not, but if the dish has been installed overhanging your property then you have every right to request that it be re-sited, although he might have installed the dish in that position to enable it to have a clear view of a S/SE skyline? or maybe just done without thought, but no matter which it isn't correct as its violating your space.

Do I need to buy a booster? | Installing

steve: If you are meaning that you connected the aerial lead into the splitters "common" input and with a short jumper lead from one of the splitters outputs going into your TV and with the splitters second output used to feed the signal into the other room? then that's correct.

Maybe you could confirm (or otherwise) if you have connected the splitter up as per the method described? however if you have and nothing is being received on the second TV then apart from the fact that one of the two connectors used on the coax feeding the other room might have a short circuit on it (braiding touching middle connector) the other reason could be that your signal level is too low, especially if the feed is a bit lengthy, and should this apply then you will have to purchase a two way powered splitter instead of (I assume) the passive type presently used.

Unfortunately though the aspect of the signal level expected at your location cannot be assessed without having knowledge of your post code or at least one from nearby, e.g: a shop / post office.

martin: If removing the feed from the splitter that goes into your lounge TV restores the picture in the spare bedroom then you require a two way powered splitter such as sold by Argos on page No 507.

Philex 18db 2 way booster item No 108 / 0287 @ £13.99.

James Sapwell: Although your TV has failed to pick up either of the two channels mentioned during the auto-tune its not necessarily the case that no signals at all are being received from same, but just that they are being received under the threshold level required by your TV to store them, therefore in order to get an idea of the situation you are in you should carry out the following procedure.

If your new plasma TV offers a manual tuning facility then select this mode from the set up menu and enter Caradon Hill's SDN mux on Ch21 but do NOT scan it, as on most TV's (and boxes) the level that the signal is being received at will be shown in the strength / quality bars, make a note of the level seen and then change the channel number entered to Ch24 Caradons ArqA mux (same TX power level as SDN) and as before noting the level indicated from it then comparing the two readings.

As far as HD is concerned, use exactly the same procedure to test the reception from its mux operating on Ch22, but though should you get zero indication of a signal then you should go into your TV's instruction manual / specifications an make sure that the tuner fitted into your TV is listed as DVB-T2 as well as DVB-T, T2 being the requirement for HD reception.

Further advice dependant on feedback.

J Skelton: Your problem could be related to the fact that engineering works have been taking place at the Sandy transmitter and indeed will also be doing so next week, this resulting in the service being liable to interruption such as short breaks in transmission or other issues that can affect reception.

Unfortunately nothing has been posted on the engineering board as far as an estimated date for the completion of the work is concerned, it would though be prudent to check with a neighbour or some other person nearby purely for the purpose of verifying that the problem is "not" just confined to your installation, albeit its unlikely that it would be!

Pam Bateman / Corin: Please note that this site is purely an advisory one as far as reception problems and other technical issues are concerned and in no way connected with any of the programme providers being referred to.

John Jillions: My reply was to J Skelton's posting concerning reception problems associated with Anglia's Sandy transmitter, however on the subject of your particular problem the Preseli transmitters are listed similarly to that of Sandy insomuch that engineering work has been taking place since last Monday the 9th of September.

On the subject of Redruth though, this station is not shown as being possible to receive at your location and that includes as far as DX (long distance) reception is concerned.

mazbar: I was just wondering if you have managed as yet to check out the Global I.O port RF modulator intended for use on the newer Sky boxes, as I see all the suppliers of same are jumping on the bandwagon as far as prices are concerned all charging around £90.00 or so retail.
