Rosa: Hemel Hempstead has never transmitted BBC Four HD or BBC News HD so you must have been receiving them from another transmitter (Crystal Palace seems the most likely looking at the Digital UK checker for your postcode). If your TV has a manual tuning function, try manual tuning on UHF channels 55 and 56 (the new frequencies COM7 & COM8 have moved to at Crystal Palace. If that doesn't restore the missing channels, you could try contacting the Freeview Advice Line who may be able to arrange a replacement wideband aerial (free of charge if you don't have satellite or cable - see link below).

Gary: Why would you have to get Sky if your Freeview has stopped working when none of the channels on Freeview require a subscription to watch on satellite? You are predicted to get a good signal from either Reigate or Crystal Palace, however you are also predicted to get weaker signals from various other transmitters so it may be that your TV has tuned to another transmitter in error. Try unplugging the aerial, then retune your TV to clear all the stored channels, the reconnect the aerial and retune again. If that doesn't restore your channels, please let us know which direction your aerial is pointing and whether it is mounted horizontally (with the little rods going side to side) or vertically (with the little rods going up and down).

Peter: If the channels are there but with a weak signal then retuning won't make any difference as you would just be deleting the channels and searching for them again. The communal aerial system may need adjusting following the frequency changes earlier this week at Crystal Palace (some communal systems use filters to block unwanted signals from other transmitters) or a new aerial may be required if the current one isn't a wideband type, so you'll need to get in touch with whoever is responsible for maintenance.

Edmond Condillac: An 18 year old TV won't be able to be directly connected to the internet, you would need a set top box that supported internet streamed channels such as the Manhattan Plaza HD-T2 Freeview HD box (available via Amazon, Argos & various other retailers) which would connect to your broadband router via ethernet cable and via SCART cable to your TV.

alan parrack: The COM8 multiplex which carries the channels you mention changed frequency at Crystal Palace earlier this week to UHF channel 56, which is outside the frequency range of the Group A aerial that you probably have. If you don't have satellite or cable, you may be eligible for a free replacement wideband aerial which can be arranged by contacting the Freeview Advice Line (see link below).

John: Have you retuned since the frequency changes which took place earlier this week? Are you missing any other multiplexes?

John: Chances are you have a Group A aerial which is not designed to pick up the higher frequencies now used for COM7 & COM8 at Crystal Palace. If you don't have satellite or cable you may be eligible for a free replacement wideband aerial which can be arranged by contacting the Freeview Advice Line (see link below).

john obee: The engineering work was completed on 21st March. As this has resulted in all multiplexes at Great Missenden moving to new frequencies you will need to retune and may potentially require a new aerial (this can be arranged by contacting the Freeview Advice Line and will be free of charge if you don't have satellite or cable - see link below).
