Or do you have another Freeview box or TV you can try? If so, what signal strength do you get on the other TV/box when connected to the same aerial in the same room?

mikeact: Difference of sensitivity of the tuner.
Don't read too much into websites and other things that tell you whether you are in an area where you can get a digital signal. They should be used as a guide only. This is because reception depends on many many factors, including troublesome trees and buildings, size of aerial etc.
Take the Cello set to the other aerial outlet and try it.
Was/does the old portable TV have digital? Or did you use it for digital with a set-top box?

allan hamilton: Try unplugging the aerial into the Sky box. If the fuzzy picture is as a result of using a channel that is used for digital transmissions in your area, then removing the aerial should reduce the level of interference.
If it doesn't affect it (i.e. it stays fuzzy), then perhaps it's loss in the 20m cable. It's probably best to use double screened cable if you haven't already done so.

tony: Lots of people are having the same problem and this has been the case since November. The signal for this group of services will be increased in power on 27th June.
Until then, try manually tuning to UHF channel 63 if your receiver allows.

Freeview on Heathfield TV transmitter | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice
She has had an aerial fitted for Heathfield. It won't provide her with Freeview until switchover. The obvious question being asked was why can't Hastings be used when it is OK now? (TN35 5EE)

cass: Is it a PVR-9300T or PVR-9300T/500 by any chance?
If so, it is on the list of firmware updates being broadcast:
DTG :: DTT Receiver Downloads
I am wondering if it was in the process of updating or was about to update when you switched it off.
If you turn it off at the wall when you aren't using it, then you would be best advised to leave it turned on so (hopefully) it will perform the update whlst unattended.
Look at the version that it is running. The one being broadcast is UPTTF 1.00.026. Is it older than this? If so, I would suspect that it is going to attempt to update.

Fraz: Are you referring to Sheffield?
The main transmitter for Sheffield is at Crosspool and overlooks the city. It does carry all the commercial TV channels as well as transmitters for radio including many commercial stations.
The thing with Sheffield is that it's very hilly, which means which transmitter(s) can be received from can vary quite markedly.
There are filler-in relays in Wincobank and Totley which do not carry the commercial channels.

M Greeves: Perhaps it doesn't remember the channels because the memory isn't big enough.
Fear not (hopefully!)!
What happens is that (sometimes unbeknownst the user), the channels from other transmitters (that serve other areas) are picked up and stored in the memory, thereby hogging the space. Because the scan that happens during automatic tuning starts at low frequency and goes upwards, it stores the lower ones first. In your case, the ones you want are at high frequency and therefore don't get stored.
Do as Briantist suggests and wipe the memory by carrying out the procedure outlined here:
My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound or the channel line up is wrong | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice
Then manually tune the channels from Tacolneston (assuming your TV allows manual tuning).
They are:
BBC=55
ITV/C4 etc=59
HD=62
ITV3 etc=42
Pick TV etc=45
Yesterday etc=50
Note that HD channels will move to 50 and Yesterday etc will move to 39 some time in 2013.
Let me know if you get this working or if you would like further help.

j arthurton: It depends where abouts you are. Around 90% of the population can receive all Freeview channels which includes some not on Freesat. Around 8% only get the basic set which are all on Freesat.
See this BBC Blog posting yesterday:
BBC - BBC Internet Blog: BBC Red Button video service arrives on Freesat
BBC Red Button streams are now available on Freesat.
If you let us know your location (preferrably in the form of a post code) then we can suggest the likelihood of success with the extra channels on Freeview.
