Below are all of N.J. Anderson's postings, with the most recent are at the bottom of the page. Why do the current local TV broadcasters only use horizontal polarisation for the low power signals involved as reception is not normally possible in an area not very close to the transmitter if the receiving aerial is vertically polarised?

I think it is time the dealers of DAB radios finally caught onto the fact, and I include all the large supermarket retailers with the possible exception of John Lewis who always endeavour to keep up to date with new developments in broadcasting, that DAB+ is the system of the future with most of the large and small independent stations switching to that format, and to stop selling all those DAB radios which cannot receive the new stations. This is no different to retailers stocking new non HD TV receivers which again cannot receive all the freeserve channels.

What is needed in the Solent area is a local TV station that has the resources to provide a good quality service with competent and able technicians. Something which the present ThatsSolent does not appear to possess. It would be superb if the Evening Standard, the current franchise holder of London Live, could take an interest in this part of the world and apply when the franchise is due for renewal, or indeed if ThatsSolent last that long. Maybe then we will have a local channel worth watching.

I have a Sony Brava 26 inch flat screen purchased in 2008 and the picture with regular use is still as clear and sharp as when first purchased. I do not relish having to replace it before it eventually wears out due to the advancement of the mobile phone network.

It is high time the major high street retailers realised that they need to stock DAB + radios and to phase out those that are not capable of receiving DAB + in the shortest possible time. At the moment they seem to be making very slow progress in this direction and to stop importing those radios that do not support the new.

Why is it necessary to broadcast Talking Pictures only on the HD format and not on SD for the benefit of all potential viewers? Also why should there not be an SD outlet for all freeview channels?

Why should the BBC receive top billing in any programme guide? Surely in the real world the quality and "viewability" of any programme should speak for itself. The BBC should not receive priority over any other broadcaster. It has been a long time since the Corporation held the monopoly in sound and TV broadcasting in the U.K.

I think Channel 5 has become consistently better over the years and has now reached the point where the programme choice has become at least as good as all its' main competitors including the BBC.

The problem with ThatsSolent is that whilst the station provides a good week day service, and their initial technical and operational problems at last appear to be over, they do not provide any week-end or public holiday coverage and their resources should be increased to rectify this. Their current policy however of providing an all day movie service from Talking Pictures is good as this channel is only available on freeview HD and the current ThatsSolent policy gives viewers without HD a chance to view some of their output.

The new DAB multiplex entitled "trial Portsmouth" in Fort Widley, near Portsmouth gives a good signal between and including Fareham and Chichester and the 15 stations carried, many of which are locally based, cater for all tastes. This has to be the future of radio.
