Tudor:

You are just 3km from the Ebbw Vale transmitter so you might get some signals but indoor aerials of the type stood in the same room as the TV are rarely much use - even people moving in the room or nearby affects reception badly! However, there is a hill in the way so that would make reception very unreliable. The other option is to use Abergavenny but that is almost 7km away so again an indoor aerial is not likely to give reliable reception. Likewise, Baina will be very poor due to the hills.

I would suggest an aerial mounted outside, usualy on the chimney stack or some other convenient strong point, and aimed at the Abergavenny transmitter on a bearing of 82 degrees. You need a Group b or a log-periodic aerial with the cross roads mounted vertically. You should then manually tune to channels 39, 42 and 45. (Automatic tuning may well pick up some signals from Wenvoe which will give very poor reception.)

P Riedl:

Very, very unlikely. Indoor aerials are not at all sensitive enough for most viewers to get any reliable reception. You are quite some distance from any of the three possible transmitters so you would not get good reception with an indoor aerial.

I strongly recommend you have an aerial fitted externally, typically on a chimney stack or a strong bracket.

Hi folks and Happy New Year!

Location: RH13 9BG, Transmitter: Midhurst. Rooftop aerial (C/D). Setup has been working fine for years. Aerial seems to still point the right way, booster amp in loft appears to be working.

We experience Freeview issues since just before Christmas. Reception is good for most channels (incl HD) and fair on ARQB (CH50) and ARQA (CH59), but ... in sunshine only! As soon as it gets dark or even just cloudy, usually strong channels pixellate and have chopped sound and weaker ones show 'no reception or scrambled signal'. My Humax (HDR FOX T2) shows signal strengths around 30% and quality around 10% (watchable threshold is above 40% quality) on channels 50, 54, 55, 56, 58 and 59.
In sunshine, signal strength exceeds 50% & quality is typically above 70%. Similar results seen on Sony and Samsung TVs' internal tuners.

Any/all suggestions for diagnosis or fix welcome.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Stef
