Freeview reception at DG9 7JA

For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

kathleen jones : Take a look at your signal strength - your only 25km from Emley Moor, and Humax's have good, but sensitive tuners. If its 100% strength its too much, and need to come down nearer to 80%

We have just re-tuned out Freeview box. We started out with 64 channels (TV & Radio) and after retuning it twice we are now only getting 34 channels (21 TV, 13 Radio). We live in the KY12 area. We have also disconnected the Ariel and tried retuning, but this hasn't had any effect. Help!!

Helen Rankin: Where does your aerial point? South west to Black Hill or east to Craigkelly?

Judging by Streetview photographs Black Hill is generally used in your area. If you are using Craigkelly then you may have difficulty receiving all channels, judging by predictions.

Further advice on reply.

Unusual problem has just started and I would welcome ideas.
I'm in HP21 postcode and have a roof aerial with a mast amplifier feeding 2 TV's. Each TV is connected to it's own Humax PVR-9300T and all has been working really well for ages, even since digital switchover.
This week, I lose channels if I start recording another channel. For example, if I start recording BBC1 I lose YESTERDAY completely. If I stop recording all channels show 81% signal strength and 100% signal quality and work fine. When I'm recording it's the signal quality on all other channels that drops a lot. The signal strength remains at 81%.
This is happening on both Humax boxes but one box does not affect the other.
I used to be able to record 2 channels at the same time but this is impossible now.
Could 4G be affecting this signal quality issue I'm having?

P.S. I now know it's not 4G affecting this as I've just found out they haven't gone live here yet.

Helen Rankin: Hi Dave Lindsey. My husband has just checked the aerial which is in our loft. It is pointing due East which would mean that it is pointing towards the Craigkelly transmitter. What is puzzling me is why we have lost channels by just retuning and not touching the aerial? Thanks

Helen Rankin: The first step when retuning is for what's been stored previously to be deleted. So it's not so much a case of them being lost, but rather that they aren't found again when receiver scans for channels.

Digital reception relies on the signal level (strength) being above a particular level (threshold). Signal levels vary slightly due to atmospherics and the like. Thus, the likely answer is that the level has dipped a little.

If the receiver has manual tuning then I would use that to try and restore the other channels. For Craigkelly channels are:

COM4 - ITV3 - C42
COM5 - Pick TV - C45
COM6 - 4Music - C39

Dave Lindsay:
Thanks for the advice. The Humax box is showing the following on the manual search:

CH24 100% strength, 100% quality
CH27 100%, 100%
(these are the channels that got stored during the automatic search).
CH39 100%, 0%
CH42 96%, 0%
CH45 100%, 0%

I think we'll need to point the aerial at Blackhill direction to see if that helps.

Yet again we have lost all itv channels. This happens most weekends now. I posted last week and was advised it might be 4g interference. I emailed the company 800? The got back to me and said our interference isn't due to 4g. What can I do next?
