Boxes that do not support both 2k and 8k modes
Some boxes are having problems during switchover supporting both modes at the same times:- Sharp TU-R160H
- Humax 9200T
- Thomson DTi 1000
The workaround appears to be to add the "8k" channel manually (C62 for Selkirk, for example) and then to do this procedure after switchover is complete: My Freeview box has no EPG, is missing Film4, Channel 4+1, no sound on ITV3 or the channel line up is wrong - ukfree.tv - independent digital television and switchover advice, since 2002
This is on top of the boxes that could not cope with the changes to the Network Information Table (NIT): Daewoo DS608P, Labgear DTT100, Triax DVB 2000T, Portland DP100 and these VCR/STBs: Daewoo SV900, Bush IDVCR01

Oxford
Hi
I've just got back from holiday and the Oxford switchover happened while I was away from OX4 4SY. I've had Freeview with no problems for several years, but now I can't get any BBC channels. I've tried restoring the factory settings and then retuning. When I try a manual tune, I need a six digit frequency number to go against the channel number otherwise I get a channel can't be found message. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Thanks for the speedy response last month Briantist. Toshiba have taken a look at my tv and are now saying that the main PCB needs replacing. I am confused by this as the tv works fine if I connect it to a digi box, do you know whether the symptoms of 'not being able to find any channels' would be caused by a problem with the main pcb or are there some issues with 'older digital tvs' not working after switchover that Toshiba are not admitting to?

Rachel: Many people are having exactly the problem as yourself with that model of TV, and judging by what has been reported strongly suggests that it "is" caused by the sets tuner not being able to respond to a 8K signal, this no matter what Toshiba might care to deny.
On person in the Sudbury area can only pick up one Multiplex out of the 5 (HD exc) that should be available, and guess what! the one that he picks up is Mux Ch49 the "only" multiplex still operating on 2K.

Rachel: It might be less hassle to stop dealing with the obfuscation from Toshiba and fit an external Freeview/Freeview+/Freeview+HD box and see if you can get Toshiba to refund you for whatever it costs you.

I have a Toshiba 28ZT29B Television and have just been reading on here that my intergrated freeview will not work after the digital switchover. Something to do with the "8k mode or something". What exactly is this and is this true and if so has anyone got a solution to sort this out as I like my television and do not want to lose it. Also can the solution be done by anyone or is it something only a television engineer can do.

Put simply, 8k is newer and better than 2k, and is replacing it. Which is tough if your box/TV can't cope with it.
