This week's commercial multiplex changes
By a modification to one of the parameters used for broadcast (the "forward error correction") the capacity of the multiplexes increases by 12.5%, which is sufficient for an additional standard-definition channel to be broadcast - see Freeview modes - a simplified explanation.
The changes are taking place on a rolling programme. This week:

Roger Peters: From what I can make out, there are no retune events tomorrow for the transmitters that serve your area.
Do you know what transmitter your aerial points at? If not, what direction is it pointing?
Is your TV and Humax served by the same aerial?

Tonight I've been getting the same message as Roger Peters, and I'm in Swindon too, SN5 4ET, receiving from Oxford. Oddly this has only appeared in the past hour or so, 10pm on the night before I'm told to retune. And like Roger this only appears on my Sony TV but not on my Humax pvr, both of which are on the same aerial.
Anyone know why we're getting this message?

Hello and help.
I live in Harrow (HA1 postcode), NW london, My transmitter is Crystal Palace. Last week we lost all of BBC1,BBC2, ITV1 Chan 4 and Chan 5. So in effect all of MUX 1 and all of MUX 2 have no signal. All the other MUXs are fine. This is on all freeview boxes and the new freeview TV, so its not a technical problem woth a box, and as we have the other channels not, I guess one with the arial. Any ideas what on Earth is going on?

Is there a reason that the signal from Winter Hill has deteriorated over the last week or so? Midevenings we are experiencing a momentary loss of signal across many channels. Sometimes it's interference, other times the TV indicates "no signal".

Last week I retuned my Freeview TV and separate Freeview DVD recorder when prompted by a message on both of them. I have now lost all stations on Mux5/ArqA (Dave, Pick, etc) on both the TV and the DVD. We are about 12 miles from Sandy Heath transmitter and signal has never been a problem. As I understand it Sandy transmits Mux 5 over channel 52. After re-tuning it looks like it found channel 52 but when I switch to any of the stations on Mux 5 I get 'No signal' displayed on the screen.
Somebody suggested I try an attenuator because the signal may be too strong - have tried that but no success. Have also tried clearing all channels and re-tuning - again no success.
Only thing left I can think of is to swap the aerial - I don't know whether my existing aerial is wideband but as it was receiving all channels perfectly OK a couple of weeks ago I don't understand what changed. I can find no information on this site or elswehere to suggest any changes made at the transmitter in the past couple of weeks.
Anybody here got any other ideas I might try to restore the missing stations before I shell out on an aerial I might not need?

AndyS: At only 10 miles away from the Sandy transmitter I wouldn't worry too much about your aerial group, this being much more important where greater distances are involved, but you should however try carrying out another complete re-tune "after" have performed a factory re-set on your TV / recorder. (called default setting on some devices)

AndyS: To add the part of my reply that didn't paste in correctly, (my mistake) if this doesn't improve the situation then although its a bind, carry out another factory re-set but do NOT follow it by carrying out an auto-tune, but manually tune in Mux Ch52 storing what's picked up, (if not done automatically) then after testing that the channels on that mux can be viewed, once again go into the tuning menu and recover the remaining multiplexes using the "add channels" facility, or whatever its called on your devices.
I will say that you should in theory be getting blasted with the signal from Sandy's main muxes which of course can cause problems, but try whats been suggested first and give an update.

Does anyone know if there is some work being done on the Storeton (Wirral) transmitter this week or any damage?
The signal for all the Com4 channels seems to have virtually gone with just an occasional pulse getting through for a few seconds. Generally it's showing zero signal strength and 20% signal quality now (usually nearly 100%).
It has been very windy overnight but all the others groups seem fine.
Normally get a good signal on Com 4and the page reports no current reported problems.

Hmmm, just looked up at my roof and I'll swear my aerial wasn't pointing in that direction earlier this week. Maybe that's the reason why some of the programs are not being received (although many are still at 100%) as we had high winds here too.
Great, my Freeview aerial in now a weather vane!

Hi colin storeton does have a high wind load due to it being on its side. How old is the aerial if its under 2 years old it might just be lose and need turning to the right direction. I have been using log periodic aerial these seem to have a lower wind loading i work over childwall area and find them great. if your aerial was done before the switchover you might be able go onto winter hill this has a much lower wind load. If you need any information please call me tomrow on 01695558169 and i might be able to help you if your aerial is under 1 year old call back the rigger who fitted it hope this helps c and a aerials.
