To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Andi: The channels referred to will have been wiped from the memory by carrying out a retune "if" the multiplex they were originally stored from is not picked up for some reason, as obviously applied in your particular case.

You should carry out a test to check if the signal is actually there but is possibly sitting under the reception threshold for the boxes tuner, hence the reason for not being stored, this done by pressing "menu - set up - installation - manual tune and entering Ch45 but do NOT press search, because if the signal is there it will immediately be indicated as soon as you enter the channel number, giving an update on the result.

By the way, this method can also be used for adjusting the aerial, as in effect you are using the box as a signal sniffer free of cut off threshold level restrictions, these only coming into play once search is pressed.

Andi: Many thanks for the update and pleased to hear that you have a full compliment of programmes again on your Hitachi, as although these extremely user friendly PVR's can be problematic on some stations connected to technical aspects of the signal, this however does not apply with transmissions from Craigkelly.

Thank you also for your kind comments regarding the website.

Best Regards / JB.

I CAN'T GET C4 or film 4. Ive retuned loads of times and sometimes get the channels but the reception is not very good with any recording doing a lot of jumping and freezing. It's a bit of a pain retuning since it means all of my series recording info goes up the spout. Help!!!!!

Hugh Watson: Its not really possible for anyone to assist unless you provide a post code or at least one from somewhere nearby, e.g: a shop, as only then can the details of the transmitter that covers your area be known as well as the signal levels expected at your location.

Thanks JB38. Sorry for the delay in responding, something called Christmas...

Yep, we are 14 miles from Emley Moor, and we are at the bottom of a valley. The aerial is chimney mounted on a 6' pole. I can't see us getting "too much signal", but I will check and insert and attenuator as necessary.

Your suggested test. TV ON, Full EPG, Put in Standby and remove aerial. Power back on and EPG is totally empty, "NO INFORMATION" displayed in all cells.

TV is an LG 32" model 32LC2D and is approx 7 years old.

Once again, anything you can suggest would be of great use.

Dave Timm: If that was the result of the test then unfortunately that points to the tuners memory retaining IC having failed, as once a Freeview receiver has scanned and stored channels nothing should be able to remove them except another rescan without the aerial connected or alternatively a factory reset, as both these operations will completely wipe the tuners memory the instant they are activated.

Only a replacement tuner would cure this problem.

Dave Timm: In addition to that mentioned, I suppose I should also have said that the only other possible reason for the fault that I can think of other than the tuner itself, is that the power supply board has a defect on the stabilised feed to the tuner and this is resulting in it being fed by a low voltage, and although it might be enough to allow a scanning operation to take place its not sufficient for the tuners memory IC to function correctly as far as storing channels found during a rescan is concerned, this being why when its not powered it loses them.

But though I still feel that its the actual tuner! and only mentioned this other possibility as this model, because of its age, is known to suffer from failing capacitor problems on the power board.

Good evening, we have been experiencing reception issues from the early part of December. Our 'main' tv has most freeview channels although some break up a bit. Our secondary tv ( 0n same aerial) did have all channels but since early December has dropped nearly all beyond channel 10. We are on Carradon transmitter. Retuning does not help. The channel details all appear but no picture.
