To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Dave Timm: Well this type of problem can also occur if a person is receiving a signal thats verging on being excessively high as a slightly over the top signal can cause instability to occur in the tuner (especially LG's and Samsungs) but though as you are located at approximately 14 miles away from the Emley Moor transmitters its not very likely that this will be applicable in your case albeit that you may well be receiving a strong signal.

Just out of curiosity, when you do have a fully populated EPG list will this still be retained if you put the set into standby for a few minutes, remove the aerial while its in this state, then take it back out of standby again and select the EPG guide?

The other point being, could you please supply me with the model number of the TV in question.

Dave Lindsay: KMJ: jb38: Thanks for your very comprehensive responses.

The problem is that every time you try something else there is more cost involved and of course its not guaranteed.
I will speak to the aerial man and get him to put the Skipton aerial up and that should solve the problem.

Ill get back to you all.
Cheers again.

Our aerial is on the roof. Most of the time we have a satisfactory reception. Tonight 23/12/12 our signal is very weak resulting in poor reception & loss of picture. This has happened several times in the recent past. Why is there no contact number or website to explain the problem to get it fixed???

The ariel is in the loft. When the system went digital reception was reasonably good but over the last few weeks it has become very poor, I am unable to receive some stations and those that I can keep breaking up. What's happening?

Hu13 0au and my aerial is on the roof, I bought a recordable freeview box to replace just my normal tv with built in freeview. The signal through my new is box is jumpy and the sound skips, but when I run it through the tv as normal it is 100% perfect. I can't understand how the box can make any difference because the aerial is still in the same place!

Help?

Thanks

Nathan: If you are meaning that the TV is 100% normal with the aerial looping through the Freeview recorder, but if you view Freeview from the actual recorders tuner its erratic? then this isn't exactly uncommon as some PVR boxes dont have the best of tuners compared to the TV's they are coupled into, and likewise require a higher level of signal for stability.

I would like if on your TV, you could try a signal strength / quality test on a couple of the channels that break when viewed via the recorder giving an update on the result, as you are located at approximately 28 miles from Belmont and so not exactly next door, and it would be of assistance to know what level of signal you are operating on.

Could you please also give an update on the model numbers of the TV and the box.

Dear all,

First of all I would like to thank the webmaster for providing us with a fantastic free website full of resources which are more informative and foolproof than those offered by the BBC and Digital UK.

My problem is that I was watching Pick TV this afternoon [3PM on 3/1/13] whereupon it suddenly cut out along with all other channels on the Multiplex.

I went out and returned home @ 18:00 noting the channels had 'no signal' so I retuned my equipment only to find the aforementioned channels were wiped from my system. I still receive all MUX[es] other than UHF channel 45. I have never been able to receive UHF 39+ so am not bothered about this.

I have a loft/indoor aerial [I know this is sub-optimal] connected to a Hitachi HDR082. However, I have enjoyed many years of uninterrupted broadcasts using this set up and I do not wish to be forced into upgrading to HD/3D/aerial.

I have tried the Freeview reset outlined on this site; the Digital UK instructions, as well as, triple-checking the planned engineering works for my transmitter all to no avail. However, one is of the opinion this is a temporary problem related either to the weather or the transmitter.

Any advice other than "reset your freeview" or "install a new aerial" would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Andi
