To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Gareth Jones:

Please can you confirm your full post code. This site is using SN25 2BF, but that is in Swindon, Wiltshire where it unlikely that any Welsh transmissions are receivable.

The usual advice is to check which channels your best transmitter is now using and then manually tune to those.

Since the enforced Retune in March (2018), I have been missing a number of Channels - notably 18, 19. 25, 31, 39, 42, 47, 62, 71, 73, 79, and a few others I cannot remember. Doing a search, these are all transmitted from Winter Hill on COM6/ARQB, at the same output Wattage and orientation as the other MUX channels that I CAN receive. I am at PR71XL.

My question is it more likely the problem is with my TV (inbuilt Freeview receiver), the Antenna (a communal aerial) or the transmitter? [The majority of local residents watch cable/satellite so unlikely I would get much jpy from the landlords for a new antenna!].

My transmitter is Crystal Palace. I have lost all HD channels from 106 onwards so no BBC Four HD nor BBC News HD. I see a retuning took place on 21 March which is I guess when these channels went missing.. I have tried manual channel search, automatic channel search and also wiping the existing channel list clean and retuning as you recommend. What else can i do to find these missing channels?

Andy Humphreys: COM6 moved to UHF channel 37. If you can't restore the missing channels by manual tuning then you will need to contact whoever is responsible for the communal aerial system which will need adjusting, with the aerial potentially needing to be replaced if it isn't a wideband type.

John Deverson: You most likely have a Group A aerial which is not designed to receive the higher frequencies now being used for COM7 & COM8 from Crystal Palace. If you don't have satellite or cable you may be eligible to have a replacement wideband aerial fitted free of charge, which can be arranged by contacting the Freeview Advice Line (see link below for details).

As at last night, 15th April, have lost all freeview channels, after losing them for 3 days a week or so back. So, no TV at all. STrange thing is, I have asked a couple of friends who live fairly locally, and they aren't having any problems at all. Any advice would be appreciated.

Tina: if you have lost signal, and the transmitter is fine, then it's your system at fault. Start by checking all cables and connections. If still no joy, then you might need to call out a professional.

I have printed a copy of the mux details but some are not the same as I was given when I phoned i.e I was given the ITV 3 (channel 10) was on frequency 51 whereas the copy I have gives it as 55. I am located at Ramsgate & assume that we are supplied from the Dover transmitter. Thanking you

Mike Bacon: Rather than assuming, if you provide a full postcode we can see the coverage prediction for your location which will show which transmitters you should be able to receive and which frequencies they use. The PSB2 mux from Dover is on UHF channel 51 according to Digital UK.
