To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Lynda: Resetting/retuning was a bad idea as you've now deleted all of your channels which were already correctly tuned. Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV? Please provide a full postcode so that we can see which transmitter you're using, where you are in relation to it and your predicted coverage etc.

Ken Milligan: Have you checked for loose or damaged cables and connections behind your TV? Do not attempt to retune.

DONALD KIRKBRIDE: I believe YouView boxes rescan for new channels automatically. Check the manual for your other box, or tell us the make/model and someone may know.

Mrs Angela Thompson: Many parts of the UK are currently suffering the effects of signals from distant transmitters travelling much further than normal due to the current hot weather and causing interference with the signals from the transmitter you're trying to receive. This is entirely normal and has been known about and understood since the early days of TV broadcasting.

I have a Freeview box/recorder & in all fairness we are not in the best area for signal. But when it gets hot like its been for the last few weeks the signal gets a lot worse. We are nomaly around a 66% signal that gets most staitions ok from the Belmont transmitter in yorkshire, we are in "Kings Lynn PE321RW" But we still lose about 10% of stations with signal being to week. We fitted a new Labgear Professional Wideband High Gain Digital Aerial & new leads to the PVR & raised the aerial hight & we took out the loft amp as we read that these are not so important with digital. But still get the same bad signal. Will the hot weather affect our signal & is there somthing we can do to help??.

Thanks.

Chris Morris: The current hot weather is allowing signals to travel further than normal, with interference from distant transmitters that would not normally be present causing issues in various parts of the country, so it would be worth waiting for reception conditions to return to normal. Amplifiers are still useful with digital, however they will still amplify all of the unwanted noise along with the wanted signal. Ideally any amplifier should be as close to the aerial as possible to get the cleanest signal and can be beneficial in overcoming signal loss from long cable runs and splitter if you are feeding multiple TVs.
