To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Mick King:

StevensOnln1 replied to your post of Tuesday 24th, his reply being less than 3 hours after your original.

Further, if you look at the Digital UK Coverage Checker at Coverage Checker - Detailed View it shows the signal reception conditions expected for your location.

Note that all responses on this website are by means of postings like this one and never via any other method. We will not be ringing you as all of us regular contributors are unpaid but usually very experienced technical people.

TV guide is slow and some time slot only partially fill, this happens on 4 tv's in house. Have retuned all TV's and signal strength is 10 and quality good. No problem with program reception. Has been occurring for about 3 weeks. Is transmission at fault?
Postcode RG20 9EZ tuned to Hannington Basingstoke.

Hello, I was recently receiving TV programs broadcast on frequency channels 51 and 52. However these have been lost with poor signal quality and strength. I have tried retuning but without success.
Are you able to help?

Brian Carter: Please provide a full postcode so that we can see which transmitter you're using, where you are in relation to it and your predicted coverage etc. Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV? Retuning will never fix a weak signal as all you are doing is deleting all of your channels and searching for them again.

steinar bjerkaker: Do you neighbours in the same building get Freeview via the communal aerial? If they do, contact whoever is responsible for building management and get them to send someone out to investigate.

Once again, with no prior warning, I have lost the BBCB channels. Currently available information from Freeview indicates that there are no problems or updates required with regard to the Waltham transmitter. Fortunately I am recording (by mistake) the non-HD version of a film tonight, and cannot retune until tomorrow.
What is going on?

Mike:

To be able to give any meaningful advice we need you to provide a full poist code so we can see the expected reception conditions for your location. There are over 1100 transmitters around the UK and without any indication of where you are and what transmitter yiou are use we cannot advise.

Please also give the signal strength readings for the BBCB multiplex.
