To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Are there ongoing problems with the Stockland Hill transmitter. All BBC channels are intermittently truly awful but all other channels are fine. I have been told by a local TV engineer that these problems will not be resolved until Spring 2019. My postcode is EX9 6LE. And no, I have no internal problems with cabling.

I have just bought a humax freeview recorder and find it will not tune to channels such as" keep it country"- channel 87. If I put the aerial straight into the television I get these channels ok. Have tried a manual tune but there is 0% signal shown which cannot be true as it is there is signal with the aerial plugged into the tele. Is this a further problem with Humax? I am already in communication with Humax and ITV as the freeview recorder will not connect to ITV hub. Itv admit there is a problem with some Humax recorders.

Please provide a full post code so that we can examine the predicted reception conditions at your location. Then we may be able to offer some meaningful advice as we have no idea which of the over 1100 transmitters you are trying to use.

Please also check what the signal strength reported by your television is for each of the multiplexes it is tuned to. Having too much signal can cause apparent loss of channels, seach for 'Too much of a good thing' on this website.

Once again, here at DE22 3JX the HD channels have gone haywire and remain so despite a retune. In addition, the sound through my Sony 5.1 system has gone very boxy. Any ideas?

Mike:

If you look at the results of your post code in the Digital UK Coverage Checker at Coverage Checker - Detailed View you will see that reception of the ARQB multiplex is expected to be variable and that COM8 is predicted as not being available from Waltham. However, all eight multioplexes are predicted as being good reception from Sutton Coldfield. If you have a wideband aerial you could turn it towards a bearing of 212 degrees and retune to the Sutton Coldfield multiplexes on channels 43, 46, 40, 42, 45, 39, 55 and 56. If you require East Midlands news, etc, then you may need a second aerial and a coaxial switch to swap between West Midlands from Sutton Coldfield and East Midlands from Waltham. You may be lucky to get some Waltahm signals via a back lobe on your aerial, but not certain.

Just to confirm the channels I receive from Craigkelly transmitter are
21, 24, 27, 29, 31, 32, 37, 55, 56
As I mentioned earlier all. BBC channels on 27 have no problem .
The programmes on ch 24 ie STV ,all itv ,film 4 ch 4 etc all have occasional break up of signal.
