To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Good evening, unsure if you can help me as I have tried most things ! I have a 42" Panasonic TV about 8 years old. Throughout this year I can't get the 7 day guide only one day ! I have retuned with and without Ariel, back to factory settings a few times but no joy ! I contacted Panasonic who say it's the software and that it can't cope with the information it receives ! The strange thing is I have a older TV same brand and no problem picking up the 7 day guide. My cousin as a 13 year old Panasonic and again no problem. I have even retuned manually but again no joy, looks like a new TV according to Panasonic !

BRIAN: The broadcast EPG is sent in tables with different table IDs for different types of data.

The Schedule data uses a possible 16 tables for up to 64 days, each table carrying 4 days worth of EPG data.

Only the first two tables are used in the UK, providing an 8 day schedule,

There are separate tables for "Now and Next".

More information is needed. What is the Model of the TV? What exactly does "only one day" mean? The more you can tell us the better.

I have very bed transmission for the past few days , and could not get Channel 8 -London living.

I called Freeview's helpline and they dismissed my claim telling me that I have to cal a private engineer. Moreover, they insisted that my transmitter is at Crystal place while I was told by their engineers before and other television installers that my transmitter is at Alexandra Palace . I am at London NW6 which is , indeed, covered by the transmitter of Alexandra palace.

If you are indeed a reputable company , as you claim, you ought to send an engineer in order to check my reception and possibly re-tune it instead dismissing my complaint off-hand and offering incorrect information - telling me that work on reception under Crystal Palace transmitter has ended in 2018.

Ruth Tenne: Firstly, this website is completely independent and has no connection with Freeview or any broadcaster. Questions posted on this website are answered by contributors who volunteer their time and are not employed by anyone in the media or broadcasting industry (although some others has significant experience of working in the industry).

Alexandra Palace is a Freeview Lite transmitter, which only broadcasts a hand full of channels (mainly those from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 & Channel 5 plus some of their offshoot channels) and does not broadcast the London Live local TV channel. It is only intended to fill gaps in coverage of the main Crystal Palace transmitter (around 4,600 homes which are unable to get good reception from Crystal Palace) and is not intended to cover the rest of North-West London (we need a full postcode in order to see if you are within the Alexandra Palace coverage area as NW6 covers a wide area and the coverage checkers only work on full postcodes, not partial postcodes or place names).

The Freeview Advice Line was specifically setup in order to resolve reception problems cause by frequency changes taking place in order to clear the 700MHz band so that Ofcom can auction off those frequencies for 5G mobile networks and are able to fund the cost of an engineer to resolve those problems only. As such, they are unable to send anyone to fix problems which have not been caused by the 700MHz clearance program. You do not pay any sort of subscription to receive any channels via Freeview, your aerial system belongs to you (or your landlord if you are in rented accommodation) and is your (or your landlord's) responsibility alone to maintain or engage a professional to fix any other problem that you are unable to resolve yourself.

If you provide a full postcode and do some basic fault finding, such as checking for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV, contributors to this website may be able to offer further advice to help determine the cause of your problems.

I have a Ferguson hard drive top up tv box
Has just lost top up tv on screen, not a problem, has also lost my entire library, a big problem!
Tried unplugging, scanning whilst not being connected to the ariel etc but still getting the same message of warning! You do not have a working hard drive so can't pause, rewind or access the library (or words to that effect.

Emma-Jane Bassoumi: Top Up TV closed several years ago so your box is probably fairly old. It sounds like the hard drive had failed, in which case no amount of retuning will fix it. You could try powering the box off at the mains for a few hours and then try it again, but realistically you'll be far better off replacing it with a modern Freeview HD/Freeview Play PVR than replacing the hard drive.

Hi. I have turned the tv on this morning and have no channels for freeview. I normally get reception from Dover transmitter absolutely fine last night it was working absolutely fine. This morning, there was only a handful of channels and the reception was coming from the east anglia transmitter. I have unplugged everything and checked aerial on the chimney stack . All is fine. Just wondering if anyone is experiencing the same problems? And does anyone know if the transmitter is down?

S knowles:

There are unusually high levels of "Tropospheric propagation" at present, often associated with High Pressure weather systems.
These levels of propagation are unusual at this time of year - they cause signals from more distant transmitters to travel a lot further than normal. It currently affecting different parts of the country by varying degrees and signals can change by the second or remain stable for much longer periods.
In the old "analogue" days there was a lot of talk about "continental" interference often in the summer months, but the interference can come from transmitters anywhere in the UK or Europe and even further afield. At the moment some people are getting DAB radio from the Netherlands and FM Radio from France as well as the interference to DTV.

You are advised NOT to retune whilst this continues which could be for a couple more days. Many have posted elsewhere about similar problems. People will however have noticed the unusually mild weather which the Met office is referring to as a "Foehn effect" but it's not helpful that it seems none of the major broadcasters are making any reference to the interference being caused to TV and Radio reception!

If you have retuned, you may have lost correct tuning. You will have to try again and it could be hit and miss whilst these conditions continue. If you are able to do a manual tune the correct UHF channels for Dover are -
C33, C35, C36, C39, C42 & C48. If you don't have an HD tuner, ignore C36.
You may still receive interference or the wrong channels whilst this unusual propagation continues.
