To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

M Pinto: You are missing MuxA and MuxHD which are transmitted on C32- and C31 from Crystal Palace.You should have good reception on all seven muxes at your location. You might be looking for a source of single frequency interference, ie a Sky box, games console or VCR with the RF modulator set around C31. This would block both of the missing muxes. Check that your cables and connectors are all in good order. It is also possible that trees in leaf growing in the signal path are selectively blocking the C31/C32 frequencies. If you have an analogue receiver check if reception on Channal 4 on C30 and BBC2 on C33 is good and free of interference.

Postcode NG34 9JD. We'r not quite due to switch to digital but for several months have been unable to get ITV, C4, C5 etc. BBC1, BBC2, C10, C30 and most others are OK. We have 3 TVs, eachon its own aerial. All aerials point roughly north east to (I think)Belmont transmitter. One TV is HD ready, one uses a set top box. Only this last one receives all channels.
I've trie re-tuning several times withot any improvement. We are expecting Yorkshire TV conversion specialists o set one up in abo 6 weeks, is there anything we can do in between? And are they likely to get these channels back agan? Or have these channels been altered i some way?

Karl: If you have a rooftop aerial you should get perfect reception from either the Waltham or Belmont transmitters.

You won't be able to get a signal from Emley Moor, even after switchover. If you want TV from Yorkshire, you will need to use satellite.

Thanks for your answer. We have 2 outside aerials & 1 in the loft, all aligned with Belmont. All I can think is that they may be of different quality.

Until recently all worked very well; years back the in-loft one was linedup for Belmont but we had lousy reception for 5, so rotated it. That was OK until recently. these last few months our picture and sound quality deteriorated, both breaking up so much that we can't tolerate viewing.

The remaining oe was professionally installed on a chimney stack and has more elements than the others. Each aerial serves just one set, the "big" one is on a freeview box & is fine. The second outdoor one signal goes to an HD ready set withuilt-in freeview. It USED to be fine.

after dumping Virgin for being staggeringly expensive we've reverted to Freeview on a Samsung dTV built in, but cannot get any ITV/C4/E4/C5, tried all the full rescans etc and even tried Manuel tuning but it wont let me go lower then channel 21, live in Sutton Surrey SM1 can even see the Crystal Palace transmitters from our flat have a roof mounted outside aerial, driving us all nuts!

Karl: I have to say that having both loft and rooftop aerials is a very strange thing to do. You would normally expect to just split the signal from the rooftop aerial to provide a cable and signal to each TV set in your house.

Loft aerials are poor for reliable Freeview reception.

Thank, Briantist, w've only been here 28 year but its a strange old house to which bits have been added over many years. The last occuants effectively splitit into 2, one had the indoor aerial, the other the one on the stack When the fixings rustd we had it replaced. The 3rd one I installed as high above one gable as I could reach. The overall size would take masses of cable.

Maybe we'll have to wait fo the pro's to do our "proper" set up in about 6 weeks. What they do for one set we'll have to copy for the others. Mind you, I'm a bit past roof climbing age now!

Karl: You shouldn't really have to go on the roof if you get a good signal already from a rooftop aerial, you just need to split the signal at some point and feed RF cable (preferably satellite-grade) to the other points.

A strategically placed splitter would save cable length.
