published on UK Free TV

The problem could be one of:

- the aerial has been moved or damaged;

- the cables or connectors that connect the digibox to the aerial are damaged;

- the digibox has broken.

If you have a "spare" digibox you use this to test the aerial connection. Can you still watch analogue TV OK?

Hello, I am desperzte for help. I live in GL8 8** and since a digital update 2 weeks ago we have lost all TV signal on our bedroom tv.

The tv has freeview in it and we have a freeview box also but everytime we try and search it says signal 0%. Digital say there is a problem with too many transmitters in the area and gave instructions for manual retune, that didnt work and now they dont want to know. TV normally runs on small portable arial ok, but husband connected to main arial in loft, still nothing.

Any advice gratefully received... Its driving me nuts!

Sarah: If your TV normally runs on an indoor aerial then there is no reason why it should not still be doing likewise unless your TV or box has carried out an update auto-tune and lost everything already stored.

The problem is that the GL8 postal code area is a little vague for accuracy as far as determining where you are liable to be receiving your signal from, as two main stations are possible as well as five relay transmitters, the main stations being Mendip (@ 34mls) and Ridge Hill (@ 30mls)

If though you were able to view either ITV3, Dave or Yesterday then this will eliminate the relays from the equation, and so with the main aerial connected into your TV / box carry out a "first time installation" (this sometimes called "factory reset" or "default setting") and see if that brings in anything.

However should nothing be received by this action then go into your TV / boxes set up menu / manual tune and enter Ch61 (Mendips BBC) into the mux channel number box but do "NOT" press search or scan, because most equipment will indicate the signal strength that the mux channel is being received at, make a note of the indication then change the channel number in the box to Ch28 (Ridge Hills BBC) likewise noting the reading and comparing this with Mendips indication.

The point about this being, that if you see signal strength being indicated and yet on a scan nothing is picked up, then it means that the signal is at too low a level to be captured by the tuners memory.

Further advice dependant on outcome of checks, but just to eliminate another possbility, if you dont have any success with the aforementioned procedure using the main aerial, then try it again using the indoor one.

Hi, am in the south of Lincoln (LN5 8BF - though can only be found on a map with LN5 8RJ) and am having some signal issues. Our aerial is in the loft and was fitted recently along with a booster.

I seem to have lost a few channels - itv2+1, 5*, 5USA, CITV. I did a full check of the list and it seems every channel from the COM4/SDN multiplex have poofed... And I watch the ones mentioned above quite a lot >.>

I know there is some construction in the Waltham transmitter - would this be causing the problem? We also in range of the Emley Moor transmitter, but dunno which one we pick up...

All other channels have very high signal - which is also unusual... we normally only get 65% (fine for watching) but are now getting 80-90% on the channels we have left.

If it is construction at Waltham - any ideas how long it'll go on for? Seems strange to have channel 5 and all the other itv channels and yet miss these few

Hannah Chacko: Being tuned to the signals from the transmitter to which the aerial faces is pretty fundamental to good reception!

If your aerial faces south, then it is pointing to Waltham.

Attempt a manual tune on UHF channel 29 which is the missing multiplex (COM4/SDN). Try turning your booster down a bit, say to give about 70% on other channels.

Checked with the landlord - definitely pointed to Waltham. Tried the manual scan and got a 60% signal strength but no quality. The channels were found at one point in the search but disappeared again.... result - no new channels stored :( Confused now...

Managed to get the channels back (they put themselves in the 800s). They have what should be on in the epg (body of proof on 5USA) but no signal... so I moved them to the channels they should be on and still no service, though I get the occasional spatter of sound/colour

Hannah Chacko: The only observation I can make (not saying that this "is" the problem) is that Bilsdale which is the southern-most main Tyne Tees transmitter switched to digital on 26th September and it uses C29. Waltham doesn't share any other channels with Bilsdale.

I would be surprised if the Bilsdale signal were to affect reception in the loft at your distance but they do say that TV reception is a black art.

Digital UK reports possible weak signal, so it could always be that:

Digital UK - Planned Engineering Works

It certainly wouldn't be worth doing anything with the aerial until the engineering work has completed.

Can you not have the aerial outside?

Hannah Chacko: Bring up the signal strength screen and ensure that it is tuned to C29. Other possibilities may be C30 (Belmont), C51 (Emley Moor), C42 (Sutton Coldfield).

Tried the other channels without success - they couldn't even find the channels. Is definitely on C29.

The properties were built rather recently, and the landlord got the aerial man out. They wanted to fit the aerial outside, but for some reason couldn't... not a clue why. I'll wait on the engineering work finishing and see if it improves. Has only been an issue since the weekend, so may be the cause.

Hi
I lost all my bbc channels (and a few others) last night after happily using freeview for over a year.
I tried auto-retuning and afterwards the same result no BBC1, BBC2, BBC3, BBC4, Dave, etc. Other channels such as ITV and Channel 4 are ok.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Susie
