Any idea when (or if) BBC Four HD will come to the Aberdare transmitter?

Given the announcement about BBC3 going, what are the chances that BBC4 will replace it on HD?

Paul: That would increase the transmission costs quite considerably for BBC4. If the BBC1+1 service has more viewers than BBC4, which seems very likely, it makes more sense for the HD capacity to serve the greater potential audience.

I'd agree if:-
It wasn't a public broadcasting service and didn't need to serve the lowest common denominator
and
There weren't any number of ways to catch up with BBC 1 (using PVR, Cable and Sat boxes) without having the +1 service instead of the diverse range and quality programming that populates BBC 4

Does anyone know why I can't receive BBC4 HD correctly? A recent retune resulted in the addition of BBC News HD, Al Jazeera HD etc along with BBC4HD. The new HD transmissions are fine with the exception of BBC4 HD which suffers from regular blocky interference or freezes briefly. I thought this station was transmitted on the same mux as BBC News HD, Al Jazeera etc which I receive without problem. Signal is received from Fenham transmitter in Newcastle which is reported to be problem free.
Thanks

Alan Nicholson: A quick check of the aerials installed in your area revealed all as being "horizontally" mounted and pointing in the direction of either Pontop Pike or Bilsdale, some of both stations, whereas aerials used for reception of the Fenham transmitter require to be "vertically" mounted to suit the polarity of the transmitter, the question being is yours?
The other point being, that a reception predictor check does not indicate Fenhams COM7 transmitter as being operational as yet, this raising the possibility that the BBC4HD you are receiving is originating from the Pontop Pike transmitter (@ 11 miles / 242°, or possibly Bilsdale @ 43 miles / 159°.
This can easily be checked out by carrying out a signal strength test on BBC4HD, not quite so much for checking the strength but noting the mux channel number seen listed along with the signal indication, if its C33 then its Pontop Pike, whereas if C31 its Bilsdale and which will also be used by Fenham, the reception from seen as being in the category of "variable".

BBC4 HD has suddenly disappeared! I did a re-tune and it has now disappeared from the channel list - channel 106 is no longer there, today 15/5/14. I only noticed this because I set up a recording that failed. All the other channels including the HD ones are still there. There are no problems reported from my local transmitter, Rowridge. It seems odd that only BBC4 HD is affected. Regular BBC4 is fine. (50.8481,-0.9279)
