Stan: The Waltham transmitter is undergoing engineering work and has been so for the last month. As a result, there is a warning of "possible weak signal".

Digital reception is pretty much all or nothing whereas analogue reception was analogous to signal strength. So with analogue you would have had a picture, albeit more grainy whereas with digital, there is a threshold over which the picture is there and below which it is not with a small bit inbetween where it may be iffy.

The channels have disappeared from your receiver because you have carried out a full retune. The first stage of this is to wipe what is stored.

Providing that the receiver is tuned to the correct transmitter, then there can be no improvement by retuning. The only outcome will either be the same or negative which is to loose the channels. Now you will have to repeatedly retune until they return and this will happen when the signal is stronger again. Had you left them as they were, all you would have had to do was change over to Film4, Yesterday etc.

If the receiver has manual tuning, then you can try that. For Film4 and Yesterday tune to UHF channel 57.

Thanks, Dave. I didn't expect such a quick and complete answer. I will keep retuning until the strong signal returns.

I was missing a few channels like: itv3, pick tv, dave, 5usa & fiver. I realized that my aerial was pointing in completely the wrong direction.

This morning I was on the roof and turned the aerial 180 degrees and it is no pointing towards the Black Hill transmitter.

Everything seemed fixed and I was now receiving these missing channels after doing a rescan.

However, I have now noticed that I no longer get FILM 4, ITV4 or yesterday.

Is there currently any maintenance work be carried out at the Black Hill Transmitter??

Thanks

Kevin : No maintenance work that we know of.

Try a manual tune on UHF channel 47 if your receiver allows manual tuning.

Or maybe your aerial needs aligning better.

Thanks Dave,

Tried the manual tune but the receiver isn't picking up any signal under UHF channel 47.

I will try re-adjusting the aerial tomorrow morning.

I live in Blackpool and my free-view box has no problem recording films on Film 4 But when i try to watch them they keep randomly cutting out for a few seconds. Which of course makes them unwatchable. The other channels are fine. Any one any ideas?

I live in Edinburgh (EH7). In the last few weeks I have lost Film Four (Ch15) and ITV 4 (Ch24). I have tried automatic re-tuning numerous times but to no avail. Both channels appear to have disappeared. Especially frustrating at this time of year.

I live in a block of flats with a communal aerial. Could this be related to the problem?

I do have a manual re-tune function on my TV but have no idea how what to input. Any suggestions?

Mark: Being on a communal aerial makes it somewhat limited in what you can do, but indications are that you are possibly receiving your signal from the Craigkelly transmitter, and so try "manually" tuning in mux channel 39 as these programmes are on that mux channel.

Matter of fact on most equipment that offers a manual tune option as soon as the channel number is entered into the manual tune box, the signal strength its being received at will be indicated WITHOUT pressing scan.

why do films i watch on film 4 or film 4 +1 always ALWAYS start freezing 10 minutes or so at the end of the film????????????????

this is something weird going on and not just a reception problem

the ONLY way i get around it is by going up/down an channel on my remote then back to the channel, but im telling you something is not right its like someone is deliberatly scrambling THE END of films in order to piss me off

d: This may well be annoying and appear as though someone is deliberately doing something, but its purely coincidental.

If you had mentioned your location (post code or one from nearby) as well as the TV or box you are using this would assist anyone who cares to offer advice something to go on when trying to assess your situation, as its impossible to do without it.
