Dick: The only transmitter broadcasting COM7 (the multiplex which carries Forces TV) predicted to be available is Crystal Palace, approximately 47km due North from your postcode, however poor reception of COM4/5/6 is predicted so you would likely receive far fewer channels. Heathfield (roughly East, 23 km away) is predicted to give a much stronger signal for all other channels/multiplexes. If you look at your aerial it will most likely be pointing East towards Heathfield which is why you aren't receiving Forces TV.

Bobbie : That postcode is predicted to get a strong signal for COM7 from Crystal Palace, however if your friend has a group A aerial rather than a wideband type then they will struggle to get reception of COM7 on UHF channel 55 as it is well outside the frequency range that group A aerials are designed to receive. Does your friend's TV receive any HD channels? Forces TV is an SD channel but it is broadcast on a HD multiplex so a TV or box which can receive HD channels is required.
It's worth pointing out that COM7 is expected to close within the next few months (it's licence runs out in June) and nothing has been announced regarding what will happen to Forces TV or any of the other COM7 channels once COM7 closes, so I wouldn't suggest doing anything that requires a large amount of time/effort or financial expense in order to receive something which may not even be available in a few months time.

Steve: I can't see anything on Forces TV's website (link below) to suggest that they have a catchup service.

BFBS, the military charity who own Forces TV, have announced that the channel will close on all platforms (not just Freeview) on 30th June 2022. The charity say they are refocusing on their core mission: to entertain, inform, connect and champion our UK armed forces, families and veterans.
RXTV have a full article at the link below (I couldn't find anything on Forces TV's own website):
Forces TV is closing, and not just on Freeview > RXTV info

Should BFBS think again their decision to close Forces TV and think of attracting more advertising to sustain their service looking towards the future.
