Can't get channel 51. Why is channel 51 Great Movies Xmas available from Belmont transmitter to Bridlington but not available to my location of Sleaford in Lincs. Bridlington is twice as far from belmont as my location (Sleaford Lincolnshire so how is Bridlington considered local but not Sleaford when we are nearer.

John Watson:

LCN51 Great! Movies Xmas (along with some other Great! channels) is carried on Local Multiplexes. They were moved there by the previous owner of the channels (Sony) back in July 2019.
See Channel listings for Industry Professionals | Freeview for which channels are carried on which multiplexes.

Local multiplexes are transmitted on a small number of main transmitters and are beamed towards the centres of population they were setup to serve.
In the case of Belmont, it's beamed towards Grimsby and Hull. Bridlington just happens to be on the very periphery of predicted reception with variable reception.

I have 3 televisions, all of which are on separate aerials, all oriented towards the Sutton Coldfield transmitter. On 2 of these sets I am able to receive Freeview channels 50 and 52, but not on the third and my main set. This TV has a slightly older aerial but the signal strength is 95% and quality of signal is 100% (with the use of an amplifier (because of my Humax recorder being less sensitive). My question is, will a new high gain aerial solve this problem, or could it be because of the Humax box?

William Price:

I doubt that it's necessarily anything to do with your Humax box.
Both those channels are carried on the Local L-BRM multiplex, so you should also be missing the Local station on LCN7, and also 61 & 207.
The Local mux at Sutton Coldfield is unusually broadcast directionally on two separate UHF channels being C36 & C48 depending on whether you are to the N (Lichfield and surrounding districts) 1kW, or SW (towards Birmingham) 10kW.

Which UHF channel are you getting the Local mux on and what's the Strength and Quality figures?.
Is the fact that you are using an amplifier because you don't get a very string signal generally or is it an amp/splitter to serve more than one set/box?

The positioning of aerials can be quite critical in some areas, we'd need a full post code to look at the predicted reception in your general area. Position on the house, type of aerial, differences in height etc can make a difference, so getting a signal on two aerials but not a 3rd isn't overly surprising. If you provide that full postcode, we might be able to offer some more detailed suggestions.

Hi, I have tried channel 52 but it says that the channel is invalid, even after retuning.
What can I do to get this channel?

Nicola Waller :

This channel is carried on a "Local" multiplex and it sounds like you might not be able to receive the Local multiplex. See Channel listings for Industry Professionals | Freeview for which channels are carried on which multiplex.
You should also be missing the other channels on the Local multiplex - quick check no Local Station on LCN7 (or sometimes 8) depending on location.

There are a very limited number of main transmitters that have a Local multiplex which is normally beamed at lower power to the large urban centres of population they serve.
If you provide a full (not partial) postcode we might be able to advise if you may be able to receive a Local multiplex and which way your aerial should be pointing.

Daka66: You might be able to get a weak signal from Oxford, but there isn't a local mux (GREAT! Movies Classic is broadcast alongside local TV stations) transmitter which is intended to cover your location.

Daka66:

As you probably know, your main transmitter is Sandy Heath at compass bearing 31 degrees, aerial rods horizontal.
As StevensOnln1 has said there is no Local multiplex there serving your area. Where the small number of main transmitters have Local multiplexes, they are normally beamed to urban centres as mentioned in my post before yours.

Cambridge is served by a Local multiplex transmitted from the Madingley transmitter on UHF channel C35, although its location is likely to be within the beamwidth of your aerial, the signal is not beamed your way.
You stand very little chance of getting any signal from it but it may be worth trying a MANUAL scan on C35, autoscans are very likely to miss a very weak signal.

Whilst StevensOnln1 has said you may get a weak signal for the Oxford Local multiplex, it is virtually in the opposite direction to where your aerial currently points. Some people do receive signals on rear sidelobes of their aerials, so even though it's a very slim chance, try a MANUAL tune on C46.
Other than that, the Oxford transmitter is at compass bearing 255 degrees (again rods horizontal).
