Channel One to close, Challenge to come to Freeview
Sky is closing one pay and one free channel from the portfolio it bought from Virgin TV, because they match channels already provided by Sky.
Bravo and Channel One (which was Virgin 1 and before that FTN) will close.
This means that the Channel One slot on Freeview will be replaced with the quiz show channel Challenge.
Challenge is now in the Freeview guide on 46. If you can't see it yet, please follow these instructions on your set-top box or Freeview TV: My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound or the channel line up is wrong - ukfree.tv.

Yes, I agree with linda fletcher, tony and bally python...I will miss the Star trek's - although admittadely I have seen most of them two or three times over since they first starting showing them (for example, voyager started in summer 08 and the whole 7 series have been shown 3 times over)...but I don't care, co's I love it!

FYI peeps - last TNG is on at 12 and the very last show to be shown on channel one is an episode of enterprise at 5am (only on sky/virgin though as the channel cuts out at 3 on freeview).
I also second the others who say that not everyone can afford sky/virgin etc. I personally have sky, and (to use startrek as an example) can watch startrek DS9 /original series on CBS action, or I can watch Voyager on the new Sky Atlantic channel (which, funnily enough starts tomorrow, after channel one closes)....hmmm, coincidence...
However, there is no other channel that shows startrek on freeview at present.
But it's not just startrek, there's other good shows on channel one - e.g. supernatural, V (although series 1 has finished), and the awesome Jerry springer (ok, so maybe not the latter one)...
However, I can also see the point of view of the critics - a lot of the stuff on channels such as channel one is repeats (but there again, it is on most channels)- anyone noticed how often The Mummy movies are shown on ITV 2 or sky action? oh well, goodnight and god-bless channel one...

Sorry to go off track, but
your wrong briantist....
You can't just go and get a ''free and immediate replacement'' of a faulty product within 2 years. It's a common misconception that the European Union's '2 yr warranty' gives you extra protection - this is wrong. You are already covered by the 6 year Duty of Care policy in this country, but even then you have to obtain an independant engineering report with confirmation that the fault is INHERENT and was present at the point of manufacture.
And you may not get a replacement - it may be free repairs or a depreciated 'pro-rata' refund.

#%@king Sky doesn't even have the common courtesy to give any notification on Channel 1 to tell us it's being cancelled, i woke up this morning and switched on Channel 20 to just see a blank screen, i had to check the internet to find out it was cancelled. Maybe they have given some messages but i watch the channel everyday and have seen nothing. I do understand the economic reasons Sky want to remove all decent programming from Freeview so you forced to pay for subscription but in my view Sky's image has took a massive nose dive.

I'll miss Channel One. A serious oversight by Sky on this one.

As if freeview isnt bad enough we not got much more choice than 30 yrs ago, gameshow and shopping channels what no one watches dont count, but if sky think its gona encourage me to get a subscription, why should I to have a choice of no more than hundreds of channels with repeats and 26 min of advertising per hour,Think ill start considering the value of the TV licence as £140 a year just to watch eastenders doesnt seem value for money, ill be better of throwin away me old analogue tellys, and invest in a higher broadband package

why has channel one been stopped when it is one of if not the best freeview channel,i turned on my freeview this morning to find it gone and replace by challenge showing repeats of programmes from donkeys years ago, like alot of people i can't afford sky or virgin packages, terestial tv finishes soon are sky planning on doing the same with freeview so people have to pay for tv, as a tv license itself is not cheap.whats going next with no warning or reason!!! removing cannels on freeview is this another way to give the bigwigs another ridiculous payrise at the expense of viewers? !!!
