Channel One to close, Challenge to come to Freeview
Sky is closing one pay and one free channel from the portfolio it bought from Virgin TV, because they match channels already provided by Sky.
Bravo and Channel One (which was Virgin 1 and before that FTN) will close.
This means that the Channel One slot on Freeview will be replaced with the quiz show channel Challenge.
Challenge is now in the Freeview guide on 46. If you can't see it yet, please follow these instructions on your set-top box or Freeview TV: My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound or the channel line up is wrong - ukfree.tv.

Bally Python: It's not their job, as they see it, to do otherwise. It's the dog eat dog world of business.

Briantist: How true. It is always the little people who get stamped on so the money grabbers can appease their greedy egos and swell there fat bank balances. They should be given a strong dose of their own medicine.
Sorry but I am angry like a lot of other people are, they also kept the closing of C1 very quiet. I heard one message that was broadcast very late at night when most people would have been in bed and that was at the beginning of January, apart from that, nothing. They have treated us with utter contempt.

Bally Python: Well, yes, just like you don't hear about Karen Murphy scores against the Premier League and Sky | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice in the Sun, the News of the World (or indeed The Times).
If you own a media outlet, you don't broadcast things to your disadvantage.
Well, apart from the BBC which loves a public self-flagellation.

Over the last few years I have watched as, one by one, channels are removed from the FREEVIEW platform. For 'financial' reasons BBC cut back its spare channels (300, 301, 301) from three to one, as well as its multi-page news channel; ITV News was removed; Men & Motors replaced one channel and then went as well. SKY took out freebie SKY SPORTS NEWS, plus messed about with SKY Text - now you can't listen to SKY News while looking at SKY Text at the same time! Finally, Virgin+1 was removed, then Virgin became Channel 1 and all the fuss that was made about this 'new' channel [New series of 'V', 'Star Trek', 'Terminator Sarah' etc], and now the buggers have taken this off as well!
Watch out - next to go will be freebies SKY 3 and SKY News channels, mark my words!! In the end, FREEVIEW won't be worth having, and Murdoch and co will get their pound of flesh - the filthy greedy rich get richer, and don't give a toss about viewers watching for free! Just keep your shareholders sweet and charge for everything!

Mick: The BBC have exchanged the bandwidth used for the interactive channels for the BBC One HD and BBC HD channels.
Sky3 is being renamed Pick TV - see Sky3 to be renamed as Pick TV | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .
It is doubtful that Sky News would be removed from Freeview, it is where the channel get the majority of it's viewers.
Yes, Sky is a business and they see it as legitimate to wreck Freeview as much as possible as they wish people to pay for their subscription service. That is the job of a business - to make the maximum profit for their shareholders.

Hi Brian,
Your quote
"If you own a media outlet, you don't broadcast things to your disadvantage"
Could well be expanded to include "conflict with your political stance"
Another very good reason to stop the news international take over of sky.
They have suppressed yet another story of interest that conflicts with their agenda.
Remember "Tomorrow never dies" ? I wonder who the villian was based on !

Mark Aberfan Aerials: I'm not sure if it is as easy to demonstrate for being true. Sky News certainly does have a reputation for impartiality.

Hi Brian,
Cant comment much on sky news but i seem to remember a clip on you tube of adam boulton having a pop at labour guy which was quite interesting. Fox news is refered to by sky news as their sister channel, at that is very far from impartial.
There was also the story that news international would blanket ban across all their media outlets any stories about any film where they had been refused a interview.
I get my news from the bbc as their are far more checks in place to ensure impartiality.

Mark Aberfan Aerials: Sky News operates under UK broadcasting law which requires news to be impartial, Fox News operates under US rules of "freedom of speech" which has no such requirements.
Personally, I find it important to use a wide range of news providers to ensure that you have the best possible view.
But, yes, the BBC has had a lot of practice at being impartial, such that it annoys people on both the left and right because it always includes the "other side's" view.

Yes we love Star Trek as well, and virgin 1 (channel 1) was one of the only channels on Freeview we like. Malcom in the Middle will be next for the chop!
Challenge is shit its full of crap we did not want to watch the first time around. 'Catchphase' the only intrest this show ever had was when the character appeared to be beating himself off, maybe thats why Murdoch brought it back.
Sky 3 will pobably have endless police traffic cop shows, which don't get me wrong are o.k the first time around but it wares abit when you know whats going to happen next.
I can not buy SKY as I have a rental property, nor do I want it come on Virgin sort yourselves out take on sky before you lose everything.
