If you have a Freesat from Sky system provided as part of the Digital Switchover Help Scheme or "Freesat from Sky" or "Pay Once Watch Forever" deals, you will be sent a replacement card.

Another option, from around 50 is to change your box for a new Freesat box, see Upgrading from Sky to Freesat. This requires no card and most of the channels on Freesat from Sky and does provides all the public service channels including those from ITV, Channel 4 and FIVE.

Freesat HD boxes are around 150, and this provides BBC and ITV HD, and is expected to have Channel 4 HD and FIVE HD very soon. Freesat+ boxes provides the facilities of Sky+ without any subscription, and cost from 250.

I have a spare Sky+ HD box folowing my switch to Freesat, so I thiught I would try and use it at my holiday home in southern Italy.

I am told that with a 80cm dish & quad LNB wired up to my Sky box I can recieve ITV, Channel 4 & 5 as well as HD broadcasts but no BBC from the Astra 2A and 2B at 28.2° E.

I have my old sky viewing card that was renewed about a year ago but a friend in Italy has said I should get the Sky Freesat card for £20. Then when I receive the new card, connect the box and insert the card and select channel 104 (C4) and follow the instructions on screen.

My question is do I need to get the new card or can I continue to use the old one?

Robin: The card provides access to Sky3, Fiver and Five USA. If you can view these channels, you don't need a new card. If you can't, you do.

Hi Brian

A bit confused - the channel list you provided is that just to test it or is that the full list? If so, not worth doing methinks

This does not make sense as my friend is using his Sky HD box to recieve ITV, Channel 4 & 5 using the Astra 2A and 2B at 28.2° E.

Robin: The full list of free channels is on the All free-to-watch channels | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice page, there are hundreds of them.

The card only provides access to an additional three.

I have 3 kids tv's and a tv in our bedroom that are run through a roof aerial and booster, which up until approx' 2 months ago worked fine. About 2 months ago all 4 tv's pictures & the neighbours tv's pIcture started to break up (freeview). The neighbour has had a new roof aerial fitted but his problem got no better. The engineer that fitted their new roof aerial said that it appeared that the digitl signal was being obstructed by a tree in the distance. (200 yards away). Is that possible ? The tree hasn't grown significantly (just grown it's leaves) and things were OK last year.

Wol sorry but one of our bigest problems is trees. If the tree is 200 yards the problem is with the movement of the tree causing the signal to break up. If the problem is just one tree could moving your aerial to the side of your house cause your aerial to miss the tree . If your wall is strong you could have a large mast fitted the largest mast we fit is 20 ft but this looks dreadfull, and cost a lot. Your only other solution might be freesat. Have a local aerial rigger come and have a look dont use the national free phone riggers. Hope this helps
