To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

I have used my Goodmans Freeview box without problems for about 2 years. Three nights ago, all channels bore the "no signal" message. I retuned but only got BBC 4, Cbeebies and Parliament (Row B). Since then I have tried both methods you suggest about 20 times but when I did the facory reset, the only result was that I lost all my recorded programmes and remained with the same 3 channels. Any ideas? or shall I give up and get rid of my freeview at a car boot sale?

For the last week I have had interference on all Freeview stations.At first I thought it was the aerial,but it's communal and there have been no other complaints.All channels seem to be only at 61%,which is a drop from 70 odd.Some channels are worse than others,especially BBC ones.Will my signal improve after switchover or do I need a new box?

Angela Mathers: You probably don't need either switchover or a new box, can you please see Freeview reception has changed? | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice ?

Helensburgh

As of yesterday, all Freeview channels save BBC One, BBC Two and the BBC News Channel have disappeared from both my Freeview-enabled televisions (SAMSUNG).
My in-laws, who live two miles from me in Helensburgh, Argyll & Bute, have had the same thing happen to them on both their Freeview televisions (new model SONY and SAMSUNG).
All the channels show 'no signal' when entered on the dial. However, the epg guide shows information/listings for all channels!
As noted, all was A-OK until some point yesterday. I have two aerials in my loft. My downstairs neighbor, who has a new rooftop aerial, has a similar problem.
My post code is G84 7DW. I am hesitant to retune with 'no signal' showing, as I feel I may wipe out all reception (including BBC).
Is there a fault in coverage of the Helensburgh area (I would assume we're covered by the Rosneath transmitter). Any help/information anyone could give would be appreciated - I feel I have fallen into a sixties timewarp with only three channels to view!

Tom Struzzi: The Rosneath transmitter switched over to digital only transmission yesterday.
It is therefore vital that you do a "first time installation" on ALL your Freeview equipment.

Hi I have a query that doesn't appear to be covered by the above.
I have lost only one freeview channal (BBC4. When I switch to channal 9 I see the standard daytime message:
"BBC Four is available from 7.00pm daily,," on a red background.
All other channals on the same multiplex are still transmitting.
I have retuned the freeview tuner inside my DVD player. This didn't bring BBC4 back.

Can anyone tell me whether BBC4 is transmitting in Sheffield tonight or if I have another type of problem?

I have a Humax PVR-9200T PVR and a Panasonic TX-32LZD80 TV.
I get all the freeview multiplexes from Oxford on the Humax box, and I used to get all of them fine on the TV, too.
I have turned off the RF output from the Humax box, as I use RGB Scart, long ago - so I don't think the TV is interfering.
Just recently, the Multiplex on channel 52 stopped working on the TV. It shows good signal strength, but zero signal quality. All the other multiplexes still work on the TV.
After doing a Freeview reset and retune on the TV, it has dropped the multiplex on channel 52 entirely.
Any theories on what has happened here?

My mistake.
The UHF output of the Humax box WAS blocking channel 53, even with the box turned off. I have retuned the UHF output to a blank channel (as it can not be turned off), and all is now working as it should.
The only hard question is how it got set to the channel of a working multiplex... and I think that this was just a mistake, possibly even a mistake I made.
So this comes under the heading of "Analogue interference" - when some other equipment in the UHF signal path is blocking the channel.
Sorry to interrupt with such a silly problem. Even engineers like me sometimes make silly mistakes.
