To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Peter,

Not sure why you're looking for HD programmes on UHF channel 50 - that's analogue C4.
The MUXs for Sutton Coldfield are on 41, 44, 47, 51, 52 & 55. None of these are HD.
The HD MUX is available on the Lichfield transmitter (close to SC) on 34, but this is co-channel with Arq B on Bromsgrove.
Does a manual scan on 34 produce anything?

Jim: The HD channels you are referring to transmits on half the power of the other multiplexes until switchover on the 22nd of this month so reception can be quite variable from Blackhill, this even at relatively short distances away from the station.

That said though, unless you are in one of the lower more shielded areas of Airdrie I would have expected you to have been able to receive something HD wise, this making me wonder if your Panasonic is actually capable of receiving an HD signal? or its classed as HD ready set, as indeed many sets misleadingly are!

Have a look at the tuner spec in your manual and make sure it states DVB-T2, if it doesn't then it cannot receive an HD signal, Ch59 (the HD channel Mux) appearing dead when viewed in the DVB tuning menu / signal condition check.

okay its been a long time since I was on here but if anyone can answer my questions you guys can here goes.. I have a samsung led tv, connected to it I have a virgin media v+ hd box, samsung blue ray player and x box 360 and wii. My problem is with some hd channels and programmes. mainly it has been bbc hd channel and e4hd. the problem is this.. halfway down the screen a white small triangle appears which when the picture moves fast, shows a dotted line either side of it, if you change channels it disappears, however if you go back to the menu guideand have the small screen at the top right hand of tv as you look at it, the triangle will be in that screen but NOT on the main tv screen !! I am working on a theory that the screens affected could be on the same mux am I right or wrong. I have changed hdmi leads

My Freeview reception has deteriorated over last few months in Multiplexes A, C and D and I now can't get Yesterday or ITV3 which I like. In CB22 7RS I am 20 km from Sandy Heath transmitter but behind a church tower and large ash trees. Aerial is a YAGI mounted in the roof space of my bungalow (restrictive covenant). I have a 9db signal booster mounted about 20' from the aerial. Signal strengths on the UHF channels are: CH24 60-80%, CH27 80-90%, CH40 50-60%, CH43 50-60%, CH67 30-60% very variable. Is it worth investing in a high gain aerial or can you suggest other solution?

Peter Bird: The problem is not really with the signal strength but poor signal quality. A high gain aerial is not going to stop variation in the strength of signal being received and could result in too much signal on the stronger transmissions. You could try repositioning the aerial to try and find a signal which is more stable and better quality. Moving it a couple of inches to either side as well as raising or lowering the aerial might be all that is required, otherwise try all possible locations around the loft and slightly different bearings towards the transmitter. It is likely that the trees are causing the variations noticed to the signal and rather time consuming trial and error is required to find the best aerial position if you have no signal measuring equipment.

steve, bedworth: It's a problem with the V+ box, I would contact Virgin directly about this.

Peter: Yes, you do appear to be on the fringe of reliable Freeview HD reception until switchover.
