##Access to ITV Player on Demand TV for Panasonic Owners##
Having seen that Humax Freeview box owners can now access ITV player I emailed Panasonic to enquire when owners of Panasonic TX-P42G20Band similar Freeview/Freesat Viera TV sets can expect to access it. Part of my rationale for spending on a Pany was the future proofing and promise of things to come regarding TV on demand.
This was the reply.
ISSUE RESOLUTION:
Thank you for your e-mail enquiry expressing an interest in obtaining an update to the above product to facilitate watching ITV player.
Unfortunately, it will not be possible to provide software upgrades to further enhance the platform used in this range of TVs in the future. Therefore any future additional services cannot be guaranteed.
I am sorry that Panasonic cannot be of more assistance on this occasion however do trust that the above information will be of assistance to you. Of course, if you should have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us on 0844 844 3852 or email us using the following email address:

Seems like they have no plans to extend ITBV player access to Pany owners ???
I am disappointed that Panasonic whilst a great build but aint cheap TV fail to understand that continuing product loyalty is not built on broken promises,

David W J: If you have it writing that you would have ITV Player on your device, then you would be able to use this email to demand that your supplier replaces your equipment with one that can provide it.
However, if it was just a "vague marketing promise" you will probably not be able to do anything about it.

sam: If you get a Freeview+ box you can watch shows from Dave at any time you want.

sam, Briantist: ...as long as you remember to record. Or pause when the programme starts, then fast-forward through the ads ;)
I find the +1 channels do serve a small purpose if you discover a programme is half-over on the main channel, or if you're already recording two other programmes. Still, it's usually repeated again at some other time during a week, or you should find it online if it's ITV1, ITV2, Channel 4 or E4. I prefer more content over +1 channels, I just would have preferred a different channel from UKTV's stable.

Mike Dimmick: Yes, you do have to remember to record things, but "series link" can quickly gather a lot to watch and you can skip the adverts too.
The broadcasters like +1 channels as they cost very little to provide, schedule and promote.
I think that UKTV chose "Really" because it will provide a better female-profile, with "Dave" being male-orientated and "Yesterday" for the older viewers.
Whilst G.O.L.D or Alibi might be more popular, UKTV do not wish to undermine their paying subscribers.

FREEVIEW is becoming a bit of a joke, IMO. Too many channels being lost - Virgin, SKY Sports News, BBC Spare Channels / Multi- Screen News, Men And Motors, Al Jazeera News, CNN News and more recently Dave Ja Vu. And it seems many channels have become nothing more than glorified shops selling jewellery, or late-night soft porn. Surely by now, we should be adding more and better quality TV channels, not taking them away? (Giving us FOOD, Science, or maybe even some GOLD and Top-Up TV stuff would be nice!)
Is it really worth me sticking with FREEVIEW or would FREESAT be any better? God knows I don't want to give Murdoch & Co a penny, so SKY TV is definitely out! Cheers, Mick.

Mick White: Virgin One is now Challenge, Sky Sports News is now PICKTV+1, BBC "spare channels" now BBC One HD and BBC HD, Men And Motors was replaced with ITV4, Al Jazeera News is still broadcast, Dave Ja Vu replaced by Really.
The Food Network now broadcasts on C49 - Food Network fills Freeview channel 49 from Thursday | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .

I actually rather liked Virgin (Star Trek!) whereas Challenge is reheated old games and competition rubbish; PICKTV+!? What's that? (I don't think it's on FREEVIEW is it!); Can I get BBC HD on my FREEVIEW set? I like Men & Motors, not ITV4; Al Jazeera is now limited space, CNN has gone completely, and Dave Ja Vu was useful if I missed something, whereas Really...need I go on?
Like I say, it seems many channels have become nothing more than glorified shops selling jewellery, or late-night soft porn. Surely by now, we should be adding more and better quality TV channels, not taking them away? Is it worth trying FREESAT or is that jus as bad? Cheers, Mick.

Mick White: Yes, PICK TV is on Freeview (it's channel 11), it seems to be programmes shown on ITV.
BBC HD and BBC One HD are on Freeview HD, you will need to be in a switched over region (plus London and Birmingham) and have a DVB-T2 receiver to get Freeview HD.
Men and Motors closed on 1st April 2010.
Any channel that can win the auction for capacity can broadcast on Freeview, and this includes shopping channels. No-one "decides" what content is provided, other than "the market".

Mick White: Welcome to the marketplace.
The Virgin 1 change came about because Sky bought the Virgin and former Flextech channels from Virgin Media, and decided to Virgin 1, claiming that it overlapped with their other channels too much. Pick TV is the renamed Sky Three, with some of the most trashy Sky One content, though I think they have bought some old ITV programmes as well; Pick TV +1 is the same reheated content, re-reheated an hour later. Challenge is one of the Flextech channels.
Sky Sports News was removed from Freeview so that Sky could promote 'all five Sky Sports channels in HD exclusively on Sky'.
I do agree that I would prefer some more actual content, but as Brian says, it's entirely down to individual channels making deals with the commercial multiplex operators (SDN, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of ITV plc, and Arqiva, the transmitter operator). 'Freeview' is just a marketing name, the six multiplexes are operated by different companies, and three are restricted to channels from the public-service broadcasters (BBC, ITV/STV/UTV, C4, C5, S4C) only.
Freeview HD is also available in Newcastle and the surrounding area, from the Pontop Pike transmitter.
