MAGGIE: A couple of additional differences:

After cancelling, the Sky box will show all channels in the guide that you *could* get if you re-subscribed, not just the ones you can get without subscribing. A Freesat box only lists the free-to-air channels. That might make it simpler to use.

This site has a page to compare between channels available through Freesat and through Sky's free service: Compare Freesat and Freesat-from-Sky TV | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .

If you have Sky+, you should be aware that the pause, time-shift and recording features will be disabled when you stop subscribing. You also won't be able to play back anything previously recorded. I believe you can still pay a reduced rate of £10 per month to keep these features but you have to ask for it. If you still want these features, you'll have to get a Freesat+ recorder.

Mrs. Smith: Could you give some details as to what area you are in? This information is used to work out whether there are any known reception issues or whether it is a case of single frequency interference affecting your receiver.

Woodford Green

I appear to have lost all of my HD Channels, which start on Channel 50+ on my Panasonic TV with built in Freeview HD.

When I retune my TV sometimes they are there and they work and then I get the message 'No Signal' and when I retune my Freeview HD TV again they have dropped off altogether.

Is there a reason for this?

My postcode is IG8 7AX - Woodford Green, Essex

Thanks.

JB38 Thanks for your question. I am looking at the Humax PVR-9300T. I have a Panasonic TX-24DX1 TV. It has 2 SCART connectors. I think I can run the Freeview Box into one and the Sky box into the other. Then depending which I switch on I can watch Sky or Freeview. However the Humax box only appears to have output SCART connections so I cannot record Sky, but I don't think that will be a problem. Am I right?

Duncan: Yes, you can certainly connect the Humax as you have suggested, but however, unfortunately as far as recordings are concerned no PVR device, no matter brand it might be, can record from an external source as they are all designed to record purely from their internal tuners.

You would have to purchase a Freeview DVD / HD (hard drive) recorder to do what you want, as the DVD side of it need not be used and you could record straight into its hard drive, likewise play back from it.

jb38 Thanks for that. You did not mention the Sky connection but from your answer I assume that the TV will cope with either input.

Duncan: Yes, just to confirm that Sky or anything else that connects via a scart lead can connect into the second scart socket on your Panasonic, although you "might" have to select that input (AV2?) via your input selector menu as I dont have the manual to hand just now for purposes of checking this, although its only usually AV1 on equipment that has an auto-switching to externally connected equipment on switch on
facility.

Last week, I bought a Toshiba HD TV. I've no complaints about the set, which provides an excellent picture and good sound quality.

However, I've noticed that when I watch either of the BBC HD channels, there are what might be described as random, momentary drop-outs, or what look like fleeting fades.
No apparent problem with the other two HD channels.

Any ideas? I live in the Norfolk area.

Thanks.
