Will an aerial booster improve my freeview reception?

Will an aerial booster improve my freeview reception?

No, an amplifier won't normally help with a Freeview signal. Can I suggest the following:

1. If you can raise the aerial up by an extra metre or so;

2. Check the direction of the aerial and that the it is either "vertical" or "horizontal" as required.

3. Check that all the connectors and cables are in good condition, look especially for stray wires from the outer shielding on the cable being loose;

ROGER: You will only be able to receive the HD channels on your box, and not via the tuner in the TV.

If you take your Freeview HD box and plug it into an aerial in another flat, does it then get all the channels?

ROGER: Plus as well as what Briantist has said, you have to beware that your signal isnt over the top power wise and which can cause problems with HD reception even although normal Freeview might be OK, as the Dallington Park relay is in the area behind the house at the end of the street where the turning point is.

Just purely for a test you should try using a set top aerial.

Hello, We have retuned our Panasonic tv ( with built in Freeview) after the switchover in GU52 6BG and have all channels. However all the HD channels cut out several times a second or the TV just shows 'no signal'
The transmitter strength is good for the area, and as I said all other channels are received ok
Any thoughts?

Rachel: Problem might be adjacent channel interference coming from the Guildford analogue ITV signal (Guildford is almost exactly "behind" your aerial, assuming that Hannington is your transmitter - aerial pointing west-north-west).
You may have to wait until the Crystal Palace DSO (4th April) before it improves.

Rachel: Did you receive the HD channels prior to switchover?

I recently bought a new telly, and had it connected to my VCR and it all worked well. Bought a digital recorder and lost my HD channels. However, I changed DR for a different make and now it all works well!

Maybe some of that will help.

Rachel: Which transmitter are you receiving from? (Or what regional programming do you get?)

I had a look at your road on Google StreetView and see that quite a few houses have two aerials; one on Crystal Palace (London programming - pointing east) and another on Hannington (Meridian - pointing west).

Those that have one aerial (that I saw) were all on Crystal Palace.

The power of the HD services from Crystal Palace is on lower power than the standard definition channels. Hence, if your aerial is directed at Crystal Palace, then you will probably have to wait until switchover on 18th April.

Hello, I have a question and not sure what the answer might be. My daughter has a new flat screen in her room. We have plugged a roof mounted coax cable into the back and teh only stations it picks up are cebeebies and the parliment channels. The picture on both is perfect, but we get nothing else. Will a freeview box help? I can't work out why it's picking up two channels perfectly, but nothing else.

gjecbvp: As your question is one involving a reception issue then you really have to indicate your location, and with this preferably in the form of a post code, as it will then enable the signal levels expected in your area to be assessed plus from whatever station covers it.
