To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Ok, comparing the info on the Brighton Central and Whitehawk transmitters, the channels broadcast and the alignment I certainly was tuned into the Whitehawk transmittter!
But no matter how much reseting/retuning I get nothing.
The set top box has a utility to check signal strength per channel and there is no signal at all
You'd think now that it's pumping out 4000W of digital goodness things would be great - do you know if anything else changed? i.e. type/format of the digital signal? both the TV and set top box are old and may not be able to cope with a different digital format

Tim Bishop: The mode of the signals has changed from 2k to 8k and this proves fatal for some older receivers - they weren't built to work in 8k mode.

The other possibility is that the signals are too powerful now. This problem can be indicated by receivers as "low signal", but I'm not sure how likely that might be at your location.

What are the model numbers of your TV and digital set-top box?

Do you have any amplification (booster) in your aerial system?

jb38:yes I had thought that it could be something like that as I live high up and can actualy see winter hill and over to wales.Since my first post I have replaced my aerial cable as I found water had penetrated the outer cover and had reached the connection at the TV! I carried out a 'reset' in the day time yesterday which picked up welsh programs and winter hill programs. On doing another reset last night [in desperation] I now only pick winterhill programs and all is now OK !!

carol penn: If you have a Freeview TV in the bedroom then the normal way of doing things is to have the aerial (from roof or loft) going into the Sky boxes aerial input, then as you are obviously doing, use a cable from the Sky boxes RF1 output (or RF2 if magic eye is used) to the bedroom TV, the main TV in the lounge or wherever being coupled into the Sky box via a scart cable. You can then view either Freeview or Sky by changing the mode the bedroom TV operates on, this being analogue for Sky or DVB (digital) for Freeview reception.

I cant quite understand what you mean by the cable that links to the bedroom coming from the main TV, as nothing should be coming from the main TV as such, so maybe you could clarify on that point and also on another issue, being if you have a separate aerial for the bedroom TV?

My mum lives in a tower,she is on Blackhill transmitter(ml1 2lx).Since switchover she has had no end of trouble with BBC channels.They are there first thing in the morning,then they disappear!The BBC channels all come up "no signal".One of the neighbours helps folks with these problems and rebooted and rescanned her box.He also had Sky come out to check to see if their aerialwas messing up Freeview frequency.It settled for a while,but its away as bad as ever again.Any ideas?

Angela: Although there is always the possibility of other factors being responsible, but by your Mum being located at only 10 miles away from the Blackhill transmitter its possible that the signal being received is excessively strong to the extent of it causing slight overloading in the boxes tuner, this affecting some brands much more than others.

As I take it she is likely to be using the blocks communal aerial, which by it being mounted at such a high level should (in theory anyway) be getting blasted with the signal, so purely for a test if she can manage to borrow a set top aerial that should be tried in her set, and the box being given a re-tune using that aerial, giving an update on results, as if that action has a reasonable success then an attenuator being placed in line with the boxes aerial socket would be required.

Should be said though, that the problem could be due to a fault in the Tower blocks aerial distribution system, although this is unlikely if none of her neighbours have problems.

I also have lost every channel and radio to 'no signal'. Since moving here from Yorkshire, we have had constant loss of signal, and there seen to be nothing we can do to rectifiy this situation, I have found this site such a relief, as I now know we are not alone, but now wonder if the reception will ever come back. we just have a tv with built in freeview, and a new powerful arial. Will reception get better after the change over, what is the answer.
