Wendy Leak: Auto-tuning a box in the Grantham area can result in a mixture of Belmont and Waltham being picked up, and so you have to ensure that the three correct commercial transmitters have been picked up.

To do this select EPG 10 (ITV3) and then carry out a signal strength (condition) test whilst on it this done via the tuning menu, although its not so much the signal strength you are interested in but the transmitter channel number associated with the indication and which should be Ch29.

Once done go back out of the screen then select EPG 11 (Pick TV) and carry out exactly the same procedure as before, but this time you should see Ch56.

Repeat this entire procedure again after selecting EPG 12 (Yesterday) and in this case Ch57 should be seen.

Try this and give an update on results, as if these numbers arent seen then the box will have picked up Belmont, so you will require to manually tune them in to get Waltham.

Wendy Leak: Just a minor alteration to what I mentioned, to find out what the transmitter channel number is whilst on the any of the EPG numbers mentioned, do it by going into: Menu - settings - system - signal detection and you will see the actual transmitter channel on the right hand side of the bar.

I use 'normal' tv channels via an aerial when I am recording satellite channels (or record from 'normal' channels while watching something else on Sky). I had BBC1/2, ITV, C4 and C5 but recently I've lost BBC2. Does anyone know what channel I should be using (autotune doesn't find it) for BBC2 in Maidenhead (postcode SL6)? Thanks.

Abby: By "normal" I assume you are referring to analogue as you only make mention of the five channels available in analogue.

The first stage of switchover at the Crystal Palace transmitter happened on 4th April when BBC Two analogue was switched off. Tonight the rest will go. So if your TV does not have a digital (Freeview) tuner built in, then you will need a separate set-top box.

Hi, do you know if my flip down under counter kitchen TV which is analogue can be adapted or is it totally obsolete now, I suspect it is?

susan: No very much to go on there... We would probably need to know your postcode and where your aerial is located.

Helen: Any TV can be adapted to receive digital signals. If the TV has a scart socket it is just a matter of connecting a freeview box to the TV with a scart lead. If this is not possible you will have to receive an analogue signal via the aerial socket on the TV. To supply the analogue signal it is necessary to use a Freeview box with a built in modulator (or a Sky box or a VCR which also have a modulator built in). Of course, if you decided to use a Sky box it would have to be connected to a satellite dish, whereas a Freeview box would use the aerial which used to provide your analogue channels.

My aerial is pointed at Crystal Palace. After the 18th April re-tune, my PSB3 HD signal is STILL coming from Sandy Heath - like it did pre DSO (even though I'm pointing at CP). How can this be so, when Crystal has increased the signal to a whopping 200Kw? (I live in Buntingford, Herts.)

Ed Stockings: There are several reasons why Sandy Heath could be selected in preference to CP for your PSB3 mux. Firstly, it is found first in the scan being on the lowest frequency. Secondly, depending on the type of aerial in use and local reception conditions, it could be the strongest signal arriving at your tuner. As you say, CP is 200kW but is 59km away, SH is 180kW at 25km, making SH the stronger signal before terrain and receiving aerial characteristics are taken into account. The Digital UK postcode checker predicts that reception is better from Sandy Heath at your location. If you require the Crystal Palace signal to be tuned in, rather than SH it will be necessary to do a manual tune on C30 after having either deleted the data for C21 or clearing the whole channel list. I assume that you selected "London" if you were presented with a choice of regions when tuning.
