My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound o
To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:
Try this:
1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;
2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;
3) wait 30 seconds;
4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;
5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;
6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;
7) do a complete scan for channels again.
The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Thanks so much for this advice, I was helping an older family friend and epg came back when I changed the guide settings to 8 day timer.

I have bush topup tv recorder and it has stopped showing any progamme guide...so has a friend's. I can find nothing on line but have been told that Bush has stopped transmitting!! Is this true? Still got all channels but cannot record and have lost all planned programmes. if this is true why were customers not told via message box?

Hi, had the same problem. Contacted helpline, you need to go into epg and change to 8 day setting. This is due to top up tv ceasing! Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. I turned my set box off overnight to save electricity. I lost my listings but now I realise that this is due to topuptv ending. I changed to 8 day guide and re scanned the channels and hey presto all the listings are back.
Thank you for the helpful suggestions.

Dee Stoddard:
You need to select to have an 8 day EPG instead of the default 14 day. That will normally bring back the EPG listings and allow recordings. See the responses above from Paula Boon and E Purcell.
The comment about "have been told that Bush has stopped transmitting" is meaningless as Bush is a manufacturing brand name and the company does not 'transmit' anything! The EPG is produced from programme data in the TV signal.

I have exactly the same experience as Deana Alliston. Have gone to 8day as she has but experiencing same symptoms. I have noticed that the TV guide is up to date but when you are watching tv and change channel,the programme info that comes up is lagging behind,ie it is 17.15 but saying it is now showing the mentalist at14.15! This could have something to do with it but I don'know how to fix it....Feeling VERY frustrated and although don't need another monthly bill am toying with the idea of sky as am at my wits end and missing my favourite programmes as I work shifts and can't rely on my box to record them for me anymore. Can anyone help me please?

Caroline Burgess: You are thinking about paying for Sky because your Freeview recorder doesn't work? If you had to buy a new car but couldn't afford an exotic sportscar, surely you would just buy a cheaper car, similar to your old one? If you need a replacement box, just get a Freeview+ recorder.
Only thing I can suggest is checking the menus for any option that might affect the time, and perhaps try to reset the box back to factory settings if possible.

Caroline Burgess: I can only agree with Michael. The total cost of Sky would be far higher than any replacement PVR.
The new Humax 2000 is available for £179.95 all in, includes the cables, and if you can connect it directly to the web, gets you Iplayer. Its also HD. You can get cheaper ones as well, although not much cheaper for HD, so I'd go with that one. You can also look to see what Humax will sell you graded -
Manager's specials - HUMAX UK Direct Sales Website
£130 for the older model.

MikeB: thanks,and to Michael as well. I will think seriously about your suggestions as I want to avoid sky if at all possible. My box was fine up until the evening of Tuesday 12th Nov' when suddenly listings were lost,planned recordings vanished etc. My box is tHomson digital TV recorder250gb and has a Top up TV card slot,although I didn't subscribe. When it went wrong,I rang top up tv and they said they weren't't doing it anymore and to go from 14day setup to 8day,which I did. Things improved slightly but did what I described in original post and as Deana Alliston described in her post. I rang top up tv back and had to go somewhere in menu to change something to pass...still no better. Phoned again and they said it was the box! The box had been fine before, so that is why I thought freeview had gone wrong and contemplated sky.
