How to Reset a Sky Digibox when 'No Signal' appears.

Reset method 1 - Delete and Rescan

  1. Turn the power off at the mains socket. Either do this by pulling the plug from the socket, or using a power switch if there is one.

  2. Remove the viewing card from the machine. Using a dry cloth or kitchen roll, clean the gold connector on the reverse of the card. Do not use any cleaning products.

  3. Check cables and connectors are in good order.
  4. Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  5. With the card still out of the machine, plug the Digibox back into the mains.
  6. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  7. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  8. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  9. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Reset Method 2 - Reset the LNB

If the above method does not work, the LNB may have a fault.
  1. Press the [SERVICES] button and then press [4] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

On Sky HD, press the [SERVICES] button and then press [0] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

Press the buttons in the sequence above exactly - do not atttempt to use [UP] or [DOWN]. Note that when you press the second 0 and 1 nothing happens on the screen until you press the final [SELECT]. This is a "hidden menu".

  2. Then press [1] to go to the RF output menu.
  3. Press [DOWN] three times to highlight the line 22Khz Command and then press [RIGHT] to change the value to [OFF].
  4. Press [DOWN] and [SELECT] to select Save New Settings.
  5. Press [SKY].
  6. Again press [SERVICES], [4], [0], [1], [SELECT]; then [1] again for the LNB Menu. (SERVICES 0 0 1 SELECT for Sky HD).
  7. Now press the [RED] button (reset all settings), then [DOWN] until you can select Save New Settings again.
  8. Press [SKY].

Reset Method 3 - Upgrade the system software

If there are still problems:

  1. Turn the Digibox off at the mains again and remove the viewing card.
  2. Whilst holding down the BACKUP key on the Digibox - NOT ON THE REMOTE - turn the mains power on.
  3. Keep hold of BACKUP until the screen displays a "UPGRADING SYSTEM SOFTWARE" message – this will be white text on a black screen. On some boxes this can appear as a half screen.

  4. Wait 10 to 20 minutes for the software to download and install. The box will restart when the process is complete.
  5. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  6. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  7. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  8. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Rhonda Evitt: As white Sky+ boxes are amongst the older devices around then although the problem could be caused by a fault having developed in the boxes internal power supply, it could however also be due to the dish having been blown slightly out of alignment.

But though, try swapping the two LNB inputs over followed by disconnecting the box from the mains for 30 secs or so before powering it up again, if this action restores a picture then the coax feed that was "previously" used by the LNB1 input is defective, possibly by water having entered the "F" connector on the dish, if though it doesn't resolve the problem then the dish could be out of alignment.

jb38: thanks I'll try that now.. I did the first two steps above & was going to attempt the third but I'll do your suggestion first. Sky really are a joke at quoting prices! Between 9 calls to them I've had 6 different prices given to me along with different "faults", none where the same!! I do think my dish is affected as its been pretty stormy here.. I was able to watch recordings on Thurs night when it went off but from yesterday nothing. (I meant to write Thurs instead of Fri in my first comment).. Thanks again, fingers crossed it works :-)

jb38: Well I tried your suggestion & its still saying the same thing.. Must either be water in the F connector or my dish has moved with the weather.. Looks like I've no other choice than to pay Sky to fix it !! My broadband is still working, I forgot to mention that earlier.. Any tips on how to bring Sky down on their prices?? Dread having to fork out money to them knowing I pay them £55 per month already.. Thanks for you help.

Rhonda: I forgot to add that a new Sky dish was installed in Feb 2012.. Don't know if that has any relevance to my problems but thought I would mention it.. Just seems weird that Im having the same problem "no signal, No.29" as I did last year.. Sky were able to resend the signal down while I was on the phone with them on that occasion but now they claim "unable to do anything like that".. I think it might work out cheaper for me to cancel my direct debit & Sky then set up a new account with them via one of those "selling/advertising booths" in shopping centres..

Rhonda: If the problem remained the same after having tried the LNB input swap then that points to either the dish having been moved slightly out of alignment or the box itself being faulty, which of the two applying being easily pinpointed if you managed to try your box out on someone else's dish, or alternatively theirs on yours, even if on an standard installation that only uses a single down lead as you only require a connection into LNB1 for viewing, LNB2 mostly used for recording purposes.

Hi. We have an old sky plus box white which we moved today. Prior to moving the box to move the lounge around it worked fine. When re connecting it it didn't work. The cable that you put into input one alittle silver piece broke of of it could that be the cause of it not working. We just get the message no satellite signal being received. So sat her this evening without any tv not great. Any help would be great please. Thanks

Tracy: Provided that you are not intending to record anything then use the lead that goes into the LNB2 input as both LNB1 and LNB2 are technically identical to each other.

If part of the LNB1's "F" connector broke off then these are easily obtainable from most electrical stores for around 75p or so, the connectors simply being screwed off (anti clockwise from end view) the coax and with the reverse procedure being used to fit the new same..

If you have a wall socket or two feeding the satellite signals, you could replace them with a new one or two. See Patch/Fly Lead 1.5M F Plug Satellite Extension Cable: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics as a possible source - other traders sell them as well.
The connectors at each end have a central 'pin' protruding a few mm from the end and the silver body screws onto the socket. If the centra pin is broken or bent then the signals will not get through to the box.
