Paul Gilbert : In addition to that said by Dave Lindsay, purely for the purpose of verifying that the TV used in the back room is actually capable of HD reception by it NOT just being an HD ready type which isn't! you should retune the set in question on the front rooms aerial point, then once all the channels are stored including (hopefully) the COM7 offerings, move the TV into the back room again and check if any programme channels are missing, if they are do NOT retune the TV again as all you will achieve is to lose the channels already stored.
That said is on the assumption that in your latter paragraph >> The reception in from room << from is meant to be "front"?

Dave the tv in the back room is all singing sony hd freeview tv As is the tv in front room which is Panasonic different coax to to mast and Arials pointing to winter hill mast. Both tv s on hd . Resent up grades to hd channels the front room has them the back room does not. New upgrades are week in front room other chute to hd are fine, but no up grade on new hd in back room. Different Arials both the same . Your site says there should not be a signal problem , it's only happens since the role out of the new hd stations

Paul Gilbert : On the Sony TV go to the manual tune screen and select/enter UHF channel 31, but don't press the button to scan/add services, instead wait and see if it gives an indication as to strength/quality on that channel. If there is an option for signal mode, as in DVB-T or DVB-T2, then it must be set to the latter in this instance.

Hi Steve P and jb38.
Thanks very much for your feedback and advice, I will try the contact suppressor on the bathroom light switch. It is a pull cord one which is easy to get to.
We bought a new toaster yesterday and that does not affect the TV.
Thanks again,
Paul

paulk: Judging by the Digital UK predictor this could perhaps be something beyond your control.
Whilst predictors should always be taken with a pinch of salt, it does appear that it "thinks" Hannington may cause difficulty at your location at times, it also broadcasting on C42. I'm guessing it's Hannington that may degrade your signal, judging by the map of transmitters which use C42 click the "C42" hyperlink in the previous sentence to see.
I would, going by the predictor, suggest that you consider using Tunbridge Wells transmitter instead. Heathfield and Tunbridge Wells were made a Single Frequency Network at switchover which means they broadcast on the same channels, this being permitted with the digital system. However, Tunbridge Wells' signals are vertical which may allow some degree of "rejection" of Hannington's which are horizontal (as are Heathfield's).
This terrain plot shows you can't see Tunbridge Wells as you are at the bottom of a short drop and have trees in the way:
Terrain between ( m a.g.l.) and (antenna m a.g.l.) - Optimising UK DTT Freeview and Radio aerial location
This is why you may not be able to receive from Tunbridge Wells, although you may already know this.

Paul: Yes! suppressing the bathroom light switch is a much easier task as you just connect the suppressor across the two mains terminals, of course not forgetting that one of them is always live even although the light is switched off.
The other point to note being, that should your bathroom light be of a fluorescent tube type? then in addition to the interference being caused by the on/off pull switch contacts it can also be caused by the make / break action of the starter switch, this then requiring the 2nd suppressor to be fitted across the two starter base leads.

Paul Gilbert : if you are on guinea hall lane those trees over the road could be your problem I know that road isn't great for reception if you have different aerials for each point they get lower for each point. First I would check the aerial plug for rust this would show coax damage, second I would move the tv from the aerial that is working to the point that isn't just to check if it is the tv. If you carn't fix it I work over your area.

Hi.
Iv just finished with Virgin TV and my free view has no signal.
What can I do to receive free view on my television?
Thanks
Johnny

John law: If you've connected your roof-top aerial and get no signal then perhaps there is an amplifier (booster) which is connected and which does not have power going into it, as this is liable to mean no or poor signal coming out.
