My ITV/C4 Freeview channels have disappeared - what can I do? Is it my SCART ca
It is a feature of television signals that they can be effected by the weather. Aside from the obvious damaged that can be caused by wind or torrential rain, the onset of summer can cause a more intriguing problem called "inversion".
Basically, when the sun heats up the land, the hot air can get trapped below cold air at high level. This creates an "inversion layer" which acts like a polished mirror to TV signals. This causes two problems: you can receive both the original and a reflected signal from your own transmitter (on analogue TV this appears as "ghosting") or interference from TV transmitters that are normally too far distant.
The ITV/C4 multiplex of channels (ITV-1, ITV-2, ITV-3, ITV-4, CITV, C4, More4, E4, Quizcall) use a transmission "mode" called 64QAM, and it is sadly much more prone to these problems.
So, whilst a loft-mounted aerial will provide reception at some time, it will fail at others. The only real solution is to mount the aerial (or a new Class I aerial) outside on a pole, but some people report that changing the cable from the aerial to the set-top box to the high-grade satellite cable can also help.
The SCART connection, by the way, only carries a single TV picture, not the Freeview transmission multiplexes, so if this is disconnected it will result in degradation to every channel at once.

debbie: Whats your postcode - it will help work out what channels you should get, and what type of aerial are you using? (indoor, roof, etc, etc).
What make and model of tv is it?

Keith: A postcode would be very helpful (if you put it in to the site when you next post, lots of useful links will come up automatically) - but assuming your getting Pontop Pike, you've lost the PSB2 mux, at least.
Somebody else will know vastly more about that I do, but first thing to do is to check your system. Is there a fault with a cable, a break in a lead connected to the aerial, etc? If you can check each bit and make sure your OK, you can narrow down the problem.

Please can you help me? I have a Sony Bravia and last week had interference on all channels. I've tried auto start up and digital set-up which has corrected the channels available. My problem is that I've lost itv1 and 2 and channel 4 and 5. I've checked my postcode on a local site and it's telling me reception is fine.

I too have lost a number of freeview channels since the beginning of June. It appears to be a loss of signal strength. I had a new TV antenna installed with new coax, new connectors etc about 6 months ago, so I am pretty sure my end is ok. Freeview has been fine for the last few months. ???

I have two TVs one in bedroom that is just connected to an indoor digital aerial ,I get ITV channels and Chanel 4 and 5 I have no issue with that TV.
The main TV I have in my living room which is connected to my youview box and outside roof aerial, will not receive ITV channels,or Chanel 4 and 5
I disconnected the youview box and just used the TV to see if I could get the channels, and I can get the missing channels
why can't get them via my youview box, does anyone have any ideas?
I am so frustrated. Please can some one help, these are the main channels I like to watch.

Linda: Ok - when you disconnected the Youview box, and used an aerial lead directly to the TV, everything is fine. My first thought is that you have a dodgy aerial lead connecting the TV and the Youview box, which you've removed.
If you follow the normal instructions for a TV/PVR, it will say to take an aerial lead from the wall, and plug it into the back of the PVR, and then get another one to go from the other aerial port going out to the TV. This is called 'passing through', etc, and the signal goes via the Youview box to the TV. But if the second cable has come loose, is damaged, etc, it might not transfer a signal properly.
Try getting another aerial lead (something like the one for £3 plus P & P would be good http://www.aerialsandtv.c…tml) and try again. I suspect that simply getting another lead might solve the problem, but if nothing else, it will eliminate one possible cause.

George: A postcode would be helpful, as would an indication of what transmitter you are actually tuned into - you could be picking up a transmitter much further away, hence your problem.
On the other hand, dont dismiss the idea of a problem with your system. Trace back the signal, starting with the aerial lead, and just make sure that has not been a break, etc.
