To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

My bbc and itv had channels say service not running on Oxford transmitter. Is that something to do with recent maintenance? Will they return?

ITV signal was temporarily lost in OX28 while ITV worked on the Oxford transmitter.
However, having re-tuned we have now lost BBC1 - is thera known fault / works ongoing still?

SL: BBC One is carried on the same multiplex (same signal) as BBC Two and other standard definition BBC services. So, if you are missing them all then use the manual tuning function (if available) to tune to UHF channel 53.

If only BBC One is missing (and BBC Two, BBC Three etc) are present, see if BBC One is in the 800s. BBC One from Oxford is on UHF channel 53 and this information is usually given on the signal strength screen, so you can ensure that it is Oxford's BBC One and not a BBC One from another transmitter. If the set allows, move it to logical channel number 1. If not (many don't) try a manual tune of UHF channel 53 or else a full retune might be your only option.

The website is stating no problems with Broneirion transmitter but we have poor reception on BBC1 and BBC2 and no other channels - all saying either No Signal or No Service.
Is there an unreported problem ?

Jennifer Milborrow: sorry to say, the problem is with you, if the transmitter is fine. Your aerial system is just hanging on for BBC1, but its probably hanging by a thread. Could be a dodgy aerial lead, but it sounds like a near break somewhere in the system.

Broneirion transmitter was listed as operating on reduced quality (from 07.03 - 07.47) whereby reception would only be affected if you were viewing these programmes on EPG101 & 102, however, reception should "not" have been affected if you were viewing either on normal (SD quality) EPG1 & 2.

As far as reception from the Broneirion transmitter is concerned, although you would appear to reside in a predominately tree lined area and which can be very detrimental where Freeview reception is involved, but was reception from the far more powerful Llandinam transmitter ever checked out? this station located at roughly the same distance away (or maybe a little closer) than you are from Broneirion.

By the way, the Llandinam transmitter is located at nearly 180 degrees in the opposite direction to Broneirion, the three multiplexes used by that station being BBC 41 - ITV 47 - HD 44.

Jennifer Milborrow : During copying and pasting from another screen I accidentally cut off part of the above reply, it having started with "The HD service from the" etc, etc.
