HD Tv seems to give consumers so many problems. The general public bought these sets hoping that when HD became generaly available they would be able to watch the HD programs with ease. Boy were we duped.
We are now aware that this is not the case. I have bought many years ago a Pioneer hdmi tv set and paid a substanial amount of money for it then, and I spcificly asked in the shop the revelant questions regarding the future prospects that this tv would be meet with future broadcasts of a HD picture.
After purchasing a Sky HD box over a year ago and paying for the privlage of having a HD quality picture with 4 visit from Sky engineers they say that it is the fault of the TV. But I am able to to have an excellent picture on a Samsung TV using Freeview But I must admit it was not easy to have the information or diagram to buy the relevant cables and connectors to achieve an excellent picture quality and audio on this HD ready TV Dvi audio cable with scart Asda £6.00. I am now of the opinion of cancelling Sky and replace with Freeview is the best option, but I still have to go thro. the painfull process of finding suitable cables and connectors again. If someone could advice I would be most gratefull the set is a Pioneer HDMI PDP-434HDE.

Ray: Purely out of curiosity, I was just wondering if the problem that you referred to and which the Sky engineers investigated was the one concerning HDMI incompatibility between the Sky HD box and the Pioneer's HDMI input, and if in your case the Sky HD box was left set on 1280i resolution in an attempt to get over the problem?

My only reason for enquiring was by you having mentioned problems in obtaining the correct connection cables, as there shouldn't be if you have the late version of the media receiver as its fitted with an HDMI socket as well as scart facilities, and so DVi connections should not come into the equation.

That said is only refers to connection
cables and not the issue of HDMI. incompatibility.

I would also be interested to know the model number of the Samsung TV that you are using.

It's good to have old movies again, like the Hammer movies, "Quatermass and the Pit" and "And Soon the Darkness". But why oh why do you cut these shows that are pushing 50 years old? They are shown post watershed, you sometimes put them on without "temesis", why not always? I'm not a horror groupie, but this excision causes continuity confusion. You cut the Quatermass scene where Col. Breen was standing, all burnt up, before falling into the pit. I'm sure we've seen worse these days, and for real. And your excessive trimming of "And Soon the Darkness" towards the end made it look as if Jane, a trained nurse, didn't care enough about the dead Cathy to more than just crawl away and puke.
