Do all freeview set top boxes have the same problems - they freeze up get stuck
There are several factors that use these boxes to "crash":
- low quality input signal from the aerial
- sudden electrical noise (such as from a refrigerator or DIY equipment)
- failed self-updates
Like all digital computer equipment, the Freeview boxes are all designed to diagnose problems during the period after they are turned on.
If you have equipment that is failing more than you expect, you can use your rights under the "Sale of Goods Act 1974 (as amended)" to demand a working replacement within 12 months of purchase.

My Bush BU11FVRSD32X had started freezing, but (even after disconnecting from power) now opens stuck on one channel - but says it's initialising.
Other than refurbs or seconds they're not made any more (or the Goodmans equivalent) and new ones (for HD) are over 100.

Noel mcnamee : When you say "tried all the normal stuff", does that include changing the batteries in the remote control? and also disconnecting the box from the mains for a minute or so before powering it up again?
However, should you have tried replacing the batteries in the remote control with no effect, then the controls IR (infrared) sender might have failed, and easy way to check being to point the control at a digital camera whilst viewing its LCD screen, pressing the control should appear as a white blob on the LCD screen.
Of course that only tests the actual IR sender, and not if its sending any control codes.
It would also be of assistance to know the model of box being referred to.

Sue Newton : If by "rebooting" you are referring to having disconnected it from the mains for a few minutes before powering it back up again and yet it still freezes after switching it on?, then if its still under guarantee you should return it to where you bought it from, as its operating system has developed a fault of a non-user rectifiable nature.
That said is on the assumption that the batteries in the remote control are OK.

I noticed this morning that the red light and the green light on my Bush BU11FVRSD32/BU11FVRSD50 is on constantly. It doesn't change when I use the button on the front of the set top box and it will not respond to the remote control so I can't cancel the record function or use any aspect of the box.
I have tried unplugging it for around 10 minutes and then for several hours but nothing seems to work. The set top box since is well outside the 12 month guarantee so refund or replacement from Argos is not an option. Can anyone advise on how to remedy this, other than not to buy Bush in future cos that seems to be the brand most posters experience problems with?

I bought a new/refurb BU11FVRSD50X - and then discovered it was a faulty remote in my old box! I'm soon to get a new TV with freeview so will have a 32X and a 50X (both now with remotes) to dispose of in anyone's interested.
