published on UK Free TV

There are several different type of interference that causes problems. This page deals with the situation where:

  • Freeview reception is perfect or near-perfect most of the time
  • Several channels are missing, and they are all on the just two 'multiplexes'
There are two main causes of this type of intermitted interference: The current Freeview mulitplexes are shown in this diagram. If all of your missing channels are on two rows, you have "two frequency interference":

Transmission mode problem

If you are unable to receive the channels on BOTH multiplex 2 and multiplex A, this will be down to the transmission mode. See Freeview modes.

This is a particular problem for people using Loft aerials and Indoor aerials .

Non-wideband aerial in some areas

In some places you will need a wideband aerial to receive all the Freeview multiplexes. To find out if you need an aerial upgrade, see My Freeview reception.

I worked in tech tv dep switched analog to digital team. The best way to deliver digi is by wires and cables (NOT wireless) reason people choosing www tv!
Q. Your problems signal strength and quality of DIGITAL tv fluctuating between 0% and 75%/100%
A. example is freezing picture and locking cause 98% time due to BAD WEATHER heavy rain, snow, digital bounces off water unlike the old analog so all we can do is wait tul bad weather storms ease.

Might have to re-boots (known as connection re-set procedure) yes we all sick off but that's digi the future!

Choose online www delivery of tv that only digital solution to reducing problems.

This help most viewers

@Robert Mac.
Your are completely wrong with your comment (digital TV should be delivered via www), the best way to deliver digital TV and radio is via antenna, why do you think the BBC spent millions installing new antennas all over the UK to transmit digital TV and radio? What if the house has no broadband?
I'm completely in shock with this very unintelligent comment.

Interference is usually cause by illegal transmitters, or bad installs of receiving equipment.
All interference should be reported to the DTI.
Just because you worked some where and that company's answer was the one you gave dosn't mean its right or correct.

Rob Mac:

A great many locations do not have broadband of sufficient speed to stream SD TV let alone HD TV. Ofcom know that a significant proportion of people cannot get 'superfast' broadband and for watching an HD TV service you need at least 8 Mbps, more if there are other users of the same service. Many areas, not always rural ones but some urban ones too, do not get even 5 Mbps so they cannot watch SD TV via the web.

So your comments are misleading at best and not very helpful. RF broadcasting has been shown many times to be preferable to via broadband, especially if it is slow.

Hi I've was trying to watch the local news on BBC1 HD (101) and it showed "not available in your area yet" very strange as all subsequent broadcasts were fine 30 mins later and SD BBC1 showed the programme BBC London news. I have just done a search on the EPG and all future showings of local news are showing " Please switch over to BBC One for the latest news from your area. Programming will resume on BBC One after the bulletin."

Have I missed something? Nothing is showing for maintenance Etc. I am on Crystal Palace with a great signal since Freeview installed new aerial. Am I alone ?

Tony Ferguson: There is only one version of BBC One HD for the whole of England, which doesn't have any local news, hence why you see the not available in your area message.
