Tony : NOW 80s is broacast on COM7 from Crystal Palace. If you can receive BBC News HD on 107 then retune and you should get Now 80s on 83.

Hello steven , thank you for your reply , I actually did a freeview scan yesterday , and no I dont have channel 83 nor do I have 107 , but i do have channels 101 102 103 104 and 105 which are HD channels as you know, Strange I would dearly love channel 83 Now 80s ,
Never mind , I dont know if I need a better larger tv aerial , not sure but every other channel seems to work ok. Fortunately on 271 channelbox I have NOW 70s and 90s , maybe will get 80s there one day .

Tony : 101-105 are on the PSB3 HD multiplex rather than COM7. If you provide a full postcode we can see whether COM7 is predicted to be available at your location. If you have a Group A aerial you would need to replace it with a wideband type as COM7 is well outside of the frequency range a Group A aerial is designed to receive (all services from Crystal Palace were within Group A prior to the 700MHz clearance changes so a wideband type aerial has never been needed before for most viewers in London).

Tony: You're predicted to receive Crystal Palace at your location, however reception of COM7 may be variable and will require a wideband type aerial. If your TV has a manual tuning function, try it on UHF channel 55 to see if it can pick up any signal from COM7, but it may not be worth the cost of replacing your aerial when COM7 is likely to close within the next couple of years (COM8 has already closed at the end of June due to the financial impact on broadcasters caused by the decline in advertising during the COVID pandemic).

Hi.
Since the re-tune last month some of the Freeview channels have started to brake-up (CH55). I have re-aligned the aerial but it made no difference.
We have a widedand High Gain aerial (Labgear High Gain 48-Element) and CH55 (Waltham 12KW) is the weakest signal at 54%.
CH29, CH31 & CH37 (Waltham 25KW) are ok at 78%
CH32, CH34 & CH35 (Waltham 50KW) and ok at 91%
I have just fitted a masthead pre-amp as an experiment but it's min gain is 10db and overloaded the main distribution amplifier so I added a 6db attenuator into the distribution amp's input but now I am getting 90% signal strength on CH55 but it says the Signal Quality is 0% and it keeps dropping.
Any ideas??

Your receiver ought to cope quite happily with 54% signal providing the quality is 100% but even that could drop a bit without too much of an issue. A lot depends the causes of any signal variation.
The main issue with COM7 being a SFN (Single Frequency Network) is there are "not" spots where there's a weaker signal due to interference from the other C55 SFN transmitters which will sometimes vary with weather conditions. Interference can come from transmitters in Europe as well which doesn't help!
When you have high signal and 0% quality, there could be two reasons. Lots of interference (so high signal) and signal not decodable so 0% quality, or as you are aware, overload can be an issue - not necessarily from the C55 signal but the others. This can result in the indicated strength going down (even though the signal is stronger) as automatic gain in the receiver goes down but how/if this happens can vary with different sets/manufacturers Even if the indicated strength hasn't gone down due to overload it can mean the weaker signal doesn't decode, or you get pixelation and/or sound break-up.
Trying to get some happy compromise when the receivable multiplexes are different strengths can be a real problem. I would go for a variable attenuator such as

The brand seems reliable, there are other suppliers, some at rip-off prices!
That would enable you to tweak things and see what is going on as you vary the attenuation. It may not solve the problem, although the signal strength for COM7 hasn't altered with the changes and retune, some think it may not be quite as resilient now that the multiplex is completely full.

Chris.SE: Thank you for the info. I think I will replace the Masthead Pre-Amp with a lower gain variable version, something like this:
MHK2LTE - 1 In 2 Out 75 Series Variable gain Masthead Kit 1-20dB - Antiference
As it has a variable gain from 1-20db and also has LTE filters, that way I can increase the signal a little at a time until CH55 is stable without overloading the distribution amp on the higher power frequancies.
