Judy: If your mother receives Freeview from the Oxford transmitter, the frequency of SDN, which carries ITV3, changed in May to C50. A retune is required to restore reception. You could try doing a manual tune to UHF C50 if this is possible.Note that if she receives from Oxford using a communal aerial and a retune fails to find the SDN mux, the landlord or building management company might need to arrange for an adjustment to be made to the aerial in order to let the new frequency through. Check with neighbours who also use the same aerial to establish that they are also having problems before requesting such an adjustment! One further thought, if the transmitter used is Mendip the frequency for a manual tune is C48. SDN did not change at Mendip, but could have been lost when retuning took place for a change to the BBC channels from that mast.

L H Leigh: The frequency of the SDN mux from the Oxford transmitter changed to C50 on 29th May 2013. Did you try a re-tune after this date? Do a manual tune for C50 if this is possible on your receiver. It might be necessary to perform a factory reset to delete the old frequency from the tuner's memory before scanning for channels.

Mike: Did you look in the 800s of the channel list to see if Look East was listed there? If your recorder has an overnight channel scan facility, or a "new channels found" which has been accepted this could account for a re-arrangement of the stored frequencies. Maybe the service with the strongest signal is being placed first in the channel list, rather than automatically choosing the one found first in the scan, as is common on many receivers, or the strength of the Sandy Heath signal was lower for the most recent scan resulting in it being overlooked.

Geoffrey Ferres: The frequency of the SDN mux from the Oxford transmitter changed to C50 on 29th May 2013. Try to do a manual tune to C50 if possible. It might be necessary to do a factory reset to delete old entries from the tuner's memory before rescanning for channels. If a communal aerial is in use, and neighbours are having the same problem, an adjustment might be required to let the new frequency through. In such cases contact landlord or building management company for assistance. One further thought, if C50 is used by a VCR or Sky box, the frequency setting for the RF modulator will need to be changed to prevent it blocking the Freeview signal!

Jack Luxon: ITV3 is normally on SDN, except in the Channel Islands, where it is on PSB2. It would have been clearer if DUK had added a column in the table for the Channel Islands!

Sharon: It is possible that your Freeview box is not tuned to the same transmitter that the aerial is pointing to. If your aerial is set to Winter Hill, pointing SE with the rods horizontal, you should be receiving BBC channels on C50,ITV/Channel4 on C59, ITV3/QVC on C58, Sky News on C49 and Film4/4Music on C55. If your tuner has stored frequencies from Haslingden, Lancaster or Moel-Y-Parc instead it would explain weak or poor quality signals being received.

Carys: A check on the William Hepburn's tropospheric ducting forecast chart shows that it is quite likely out of area signals could be reaching North Wales at the present time which would account for reception of the NW region transmissions being subject to interference. When the weather conditions change reception will return to normal, however over the next few days reception is likely to vary even hour by hour.

Stewart: The tropospheric ducting forecast shows that for the next 24 hours reception of out of area transmissions from the continent is likely. Conditions should return to normal from Tuesday evening (9th July 2013) and into Wednesday, but high pressure is currently expected to return on Thursday morning, with local (Anglia region) reception then possibly being affected by signals from both across the North sea and from the Midlands/SE England.

Chrissy: The current weather conditions are enabling out of area radio and TV transmissions to travel further than normal. This results in reception like you have described, with some regions that are not normally available coming in loud and clear, whilst the signal you do want possibly suffers from interference when a distant transmitter using the same frequency blocks the normal signal. Signals from East Anglia and also Germany are currently particularly strong.

Dale Martin and DavidB: It might be helpful to look at the William Hepburn tropospheric ducting forecast chart to see for yourself the areas affected by ducting and from where you might be able to receive out of area signals. Just enter http//www.dxinfocentre.com/tropo_eur.html
