Hubert: If your roof aerial is pointing towards Crystal Palace you will get good analogue reception but on Freeview according to the Digital UK postcode checker reception is at best variable to poor and non existant on one mux.This is due in part to the current low power transmitters being on only a tenth of the post switchover power, which should then match the analogue coverage and interference from transmitters in adjacent regions.The loft aerial however is pointing at Sandy Heath which is shown as giving good reception on the high power PSB muxes and also on ArqB. Variable reception is possible for MuxA and MuxC but the signal for these two low power muxes is possibly lost with a loft aerial.It is likely that the roof aerial could also receive signals from Sandy Heath or Luton relay but these could be prone to variation in strength and interference after being received from behind or off the side of the aerial.

Paul Bertenshaw: If you currently enjoy good analogue reception from the Waltham transmitter you should still be able to receive the BBC East Midlands service after switchover. The Digital UK postcode checker currently shows Waltham as offering the best Freeview service, after switchover Sutton Coldfield has good reception for all muxes and Waltham good reception on the PSB muxes and variable reception on the COM muxes. If this gives any signal problems 2 aerials can be installed to receive all required signals.

Keith:Mux2 at the Waltham transmitter changed frequency to C31 from today, 13th April 2011. It will be necessary to do a factory reset to clear the channel list then rescan for channels to restore ITV1&2, C4, Channel5 etc.

Kevin Davey: If you are receiving signals from the Waltham transmitter the frequency of Mux2 changed to C31 early this morning.You will need to clear the channel list by doing a factory reset then do a scan to re-store the channels.If this does not find the missing channels try to do a manual tune to C31 noting signal strength and quality. Check you have no VCR, Sky box or games console with the RF modulator tuned around C31.According to the Digital UK postcode checker good reception may also be possible from the Belmont transmitter.Check for duplicate channels in the 800s of the channel list.

Ray Medland: Mux2 from the Waltham transmitter changed frequency to C31 early this morning 13th April. You need to do a factory reset to clear the channel list then scan for channels to re-store them in your receiver.If they do not appear, do a manual tune to C31 noting signal strength and quality. Check that you do not have any VCR, Sky box or games console with the RF modulator set around C31.Also check that you are not storing channels for a weak signal from Sandy Heath in the LCN (normal) positions with the Waltham set appearing in the channel list in the 800s.

Alan: If you currently have good analogue reception you should be ok with digital signals after switchover.Wait and see is probably the best course. Note that if you use the relay transmitters at Largs or Rothesay you will only be able to receive the 3 PSB muxes. (Freeview Lite). If you require any additional channels you will probably need to consider obtaining a satellite receiver.

John: The switch over help scheme only covers ability to receive the public service channels which are the BBC channels plus ITV1, Channel 4 and channel FIVE. In reality this means whatever channels are included on the PSB muxes when using Freeview. Switchover is due to complete in 2012 with some further adjustment to frequency assignments in some areas to withdraw C61 and C62 from use for inclusion in the "digital dividend" In most cases an aerial which gave good reception on analogue channels will be suitable for reception of the digital PSB muxes. In some areas viewers who wish to receive the COM muxes will need to change to a different group of aerial to receive the frequencies used by these muxes in their area. This is the case at Sandy Heath. Viewers to relay transmitters which only carry the 3 PSB muxes might need a second aerial aimed at an out of area main station in order to receive the COM muxes, or would have to consider satellite reception for additional channels. It is correct that there is no such thing as a "digital aerial". The term is used as a marketing tool to encourage viewers to change their aerials. New installations would be expected to inlude an aerial fitted with a PCB balun and double screened cable to minimise interference pick-up which is the main enemy of digital reception, but any aerial that works properly in a given location is considered suitable.

Mike Dimmick: I've just done a check on the Waltham signal levels and C31 gave 55% strength and 100% quality, the same as C29 and C33. C42 and C45 gave 53% and C49 gave 54% signal all 100% quality. My reception does fall off with ascending frequency as I live in a valley.

Carl: The problem for viewers to the Waltham transmitter is based around the changes of frequency affecting MuxA on 30th March and Mux2 on 13th April. This coincided with switchover at Nottingham/Kimberley as the new frequencies became available after analogue transmitters were turned off at Kimberley and frequencies swapped around.Unfortunately there is always confusion when frequencies are changed, with some viewers being caught unawares and others believing that every retune is the actual switchover. There is no reason why the stronger signal from Kimberley would make reception from Waltham or Sutton Coldfield deteriorate.

chrism: Mux ArqB is currently using a temporary frequency, C67.This continues until 14th September 2011 when it will transfer to C48 at high power.Note MuxC (2k mode) will then use C67 from 14th September until 23rd November 2011, when it will transfer to C52 at high power in 8k mode.
