Graham Denison: Thirsk is one of the temporary relay sites that was switched on last year to fill gaps in coverage after the Bilsdale fire. It broadcasts the PSB1/2/3 multiplexes on UHF channels 23/26/30.

New TV relay sites switched on as latest step in Project Restore, reaching 6,000 more households | Bilsdale Mast: Project Restore

chris : The encoders on the PSB3 multiplex are set to switch between 1080i and 1080p dynamically depending on the pictures they are encoding. HD channels on satellite only use 1080i as Sky HD boxes don't support 1080p.

Helen: Sandy Heath is predicted to provide a good signal for all multiplexes at your postcode, whereas Waltham is predicted to provide a good signal for PSB1/2/3 with a weaker signal for COM4/5/6 which may result in reception of many commercial channels being unreliable.

Have you carried out any investigation into the loss of signal? Start by checking for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV, then work your way back towards the aerial as far as you can safely access. Is your aerial still pointing in the correct direction (164 degrees compass bearing)? Are any neighbours suffering similar reception problems? Don't retune your TV as this will just delete all of your channels and search for them again, making it more difficult to know when the fault has been found.

Daniel Rutter : You're only 2km away, but Norwich Central is a low power relay broadcasting at just 20w to provide infill coverage in the city centre. You're predicted to get a stronger signal from Tacolneston, which is a high power 100kw main transmitter 17km away.

Dave: The 700MHz band clearance was completed in August 2020 and the temporary COM7 multiplex on UHF channel 56 (which was never broadcast from Midhurst) closed at the end of June this year. There are no transmitters broadcasting on any frequency above 694MHz, the 700MHz band is now used by the mobile networks for 4G and 5G and the 800MHz band has been used for 4G since 2013. A group K aerial will be suitable for receiving Midhurst (or any other transmitter) in the vast majority of locations.

Nicholas Anderson: All the Welsh transmitters broadcast the same version of Channel 4 as those in England. You are probably thinking of S4C which is a completely separate Welsh language channel, which did show programmes from Channel 4 in the past up until digital switchover completed due to Channel 4 analogue not being broadcast in Wales. There has been no link or sharing of programmes between Channel 4 and S4C since then, with both channels being available from every transmitter in Wales.

Paul Dench: The BBC are currently reporting no faults for the Salisbury transmitter. Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV? Are any neighbours experiencing a loss of signal? Have you lost all or just some channels?

Whatever you do don't attempt to retune as that will cause your TV to delete all the channels which are already correctly tuned before searching for them again, making it more difficult to see when the problem has been solved.

Dennis Simpson : This is an independent technical help site, which has no links with any broadcaster or transmitter company. Are you getting sound and pictures out of sync on any other channels? If it's only happening on Challenge you could try reporting the problem to Sky (who own Challenge) via their own website.

Alan Goodall: A group A aerial would potentially loose reception of COM6 on UHF channel 37. If you provide a full postcode we can take a look at your predicted reception and may be able to offer advice.
