Anne Reilly: There is no current engineering work affecting the Craigkelly transmitter which covers most of Edinburgh. Have you checked for any loose cables or connections behind your TV? By retuning you have potentially deleted some or all of your channels which were tuned correctly to begin with (TVs don't suddenly loose their tuning, so retuning when you loose signal is the worst thing to do). Please provide a full postcode so we can see where you are in relation to the transmitter and your predicted signal strength etc.

Richard Cleaver: R&TI Service is reporting reduced quality on the BBC National mux from Mendip since this morning but I couldn't see any other reported faults or engineering work. Which stations have you tried?

david mcleod: DAB transmitter upgrades aren't generally announced until the transmitter is on air. BBC Radio Scotland is carried on commercially run local multiplexes and there doesn't seem to be one with coverage anywhere near Selkirk currently so I suspect you'll be waiting until a switchover to DAB is announced before Radio Scotland sees any further significant increase in DAB coverage.

Mrs Anderson-Archbold: Please provide a full postcode so we can see where you are in relation to the transmitter and your predicted signal strength etc. Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV? Are you and your neighbours in the same building with a communal aerial or you in separate properties that each has their own aerial?

M Davidson: There are no reported problems on either Caldbeck or the Workington relay which are both predicted to provide a good signal at your location. If you are receiving a weak signal that close to the transmitter then you either have a fault with your aerial system (have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections?) or are receiving too much signal which causes the tuner to become overloaded and present the same symptoms as a weak signal. What signal strength and quality are you seeing on ITV and the HD channels?

RichardH: What sort of repair work are you doing? If you're changing the aerial, just fit a wideband type and it will be fine regardless of what frequencies the transmitter uses in future.

Beth Roberts: It sounds like your parents (and their neighbours) have retuned and picked up the Winter Hill transmitter (carrying BBC North West & ITV Granada) instead of Llanddona (which carries BBC Wales/ITV Wales/S4C). Some TVs will ask you to select which region you prefer when retuning if you are in an overlap area with multiple regions available, but if your parents' TV doesn't offer this they'll need to carry out a retune with the aerial unplugged to clear the currently tuned channels, then reconnect it, go to the menu and carry out a manual tune on each of the following UHF channels - 57, 60, 43, 46, 40 (also 53 if the TV supports Freeview HD) which should restore all of the channels from Llanddona.

Phil: Indoor aerials only work well in places that have a strong signal to begin with. Using one at ground floor level will never produce the same results as a roof (or loft) mounted aerial as there will be less signal due to obstructions such as the surrounding buildings and trees etc (and signals reflecting off the same cancelling out the wanted signals) which are less of a problem at roof height. Also, a lot of indoor aerials are poorly designed and are little more than a piece of wire sticking out of an amplifier. The best type to try are ones that look like a smaller version of a rooftop aerial, or even consider mounting a small rooftop aerial on your summer house.

Janet White: Please provide a full postcode so we can see which transmitter you're using, where you are in relation to it and your predicted signal strength etc. Also, have you checked for any loose cables or connections behind the TV? Vintage TV is broadcast on the same multiplex as BBC News HD (channel 107) so have you checked if this or any other channels are missing? Retuning will not fix a missing channel when nothing has changed with how the channel is broadcast.

Deborah : Which website are you seeing these reports on? The transmitter engineering posts on this site are taken from a feed provided by BBC engineering. What signal strength and quality readings are you seeing?
