Do I need to buy a booster? | Installing

Alexander Forsyth: That sounds a lot like the interference that can be emitted from a poorly screened HDMI cable. Does the Cat6 run alongside your aerial feed at any point? Can they be separated?

HC: Although Black Hill provides a signal at your location, you are also predicted to get good reception from the Strathblane and Killearn relays. Strathblane is reported to have been off air for most of yesterday afternoon/evening and has been off again since early this morning. This is likely to be due to a fault, perhaps as a result of recent bad weather, rather than planned engineering work which rarely take place overnight (especially in winter). If you are definitely tuned to Strathblane then all you can do is wait, do not attempt to retune, your channels will return on their own once the transmitter is fixed.

Douglas Powell: There are no reported problems with the transmitter. Have you checked that the amplifier is still powered on and hasn't been inadvertently switched off or unplugged? Do you get a signal if you disconnect the incoming aerial feed from the amplifier and connect it directly to the feed going to one of your TVs?

Brent Holloway: What signal strength and quality do you get for Talking Pictures? Do you have the same problem on channels such as 4music (ch 18) and Yesterday (ch 19) which are on the same multiplex? Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV? Please provide a full postcode so that we can see where you are in relation to the transmitter and your predicted signal strength etc.

Brent Holloway: 30th November was the date that Talking Pictures moved from COM7 to the COM6 multiplex, hence my question as to whether you are experencing the same problem on 4music and Yesterday, which are both on COM6. Digital UK predict a good signal from Rowridge at your postcode. Have you done any of the checks that I suggested? Weather conditions are unlikely to be a problem at this time of year, other than any damage that the weather may cause to your aerial and external cabling.

Brent Holloway: What signal strength and quality readings do you get on Talking Pictures and what do you get on BBC One HD and also BBC News HD?

Charles Jeffrey: If you can see the mast and have 100% signal strength then your TV's tuner is most likely being overloaded with too much signal, the same way you would be deafened if you stood too close to a loudspeaker. Search for the article "Too much of a good thing" on here for more info. Do not attempt to retune, this will not fix it.

Scott Carrick: The Inverness relay is a low power transmitter serving 2,000 homes which don't get a good signal from the main Rosemarkie transmitter. There are no known plans to upgrade it, probably because the commercial broadcasters would not see a return on the costs of upgrading transmitters that only cover a small number of homes. Rosemarkie shows an OK signal for the main PSB channels at the postcode you've given, but is poor for the commercial channels. I would suggest looking at Freesat to get more channels.

A. Nimmo: The TV Licence is not a subscription and does not entitle you to reception of any particular channels. The only broadcasters that receive funding from the TV Licence are the BBC and S4C, whose channels are available from every transmitter in the UK (Welsh transmitters only for S4C). Other channels are provided by commercial broadcasters and have no requirement to serve any particular location. Perhaps you could expand on your comment in more suitable language (given that the contributors to this website have no connection with any broadcaster and offer help/advice out of their own good will). A full post code would allow us to see what your predicted coverage is and which transmitters are available at your location.
