Brian Butterworth published on UK Free TV To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:
Try this:
1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;
4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial.  (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

 7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Des McQuilkin:
As detailed at the top of the Limavady transmitter page, it's still currently undergoing Planned Engineering. Current report -
Northern Ireland Limavady transmitter: Possible effect on TV reception week commencing 24/02/2025 Pixelation or flickering on some or all channels
Work may be taking place on the mast itself or the transmitter equipment, it could also be other things. Unfortunately they don't provide details of the work or how long it may last.
As you haven't given a full postcode we can't check your predicted reception which may not be 100% and with engineering work which may involve reduced power or use of the Reserve Antenna (lower on the mast) that could result in the problem you are having.
How long have you had the problem? Interference from a new or upgraded phone mast may be a possibility, but we can't check without the postcode. Have you had a postcard from Restore TV?
Do NOT retune. You cannot tune to signals that aren't there or cannot be decoded, the usual result is to clear the correct tuning.

Gary: There is currently a notice on the Kilvey Hill page warning of engineering work taking place this week, which may involves periods of reduced signal strength whilst the work takes place. Unfortunately no information is given regarding how long the work is expected to take.

I'm having problems recording programs using the EPG timer. Channel 4 (SD) and Film 4 programs don't record although they show up on the EPG. I get a 'pause' message as if a the timer is about to start but it does not do so. Signal strength and picture quality is good. The problem started over a week ago. BBC channels are OK. I have tried on two recorders attached to an outdoor ariel and two other reorders attached to an indoor ariel (via a separate co-ax) which sits on an upstairs window ledge and points directly at Tapton which is visible about a mile away. I have powered down and re-tuned the four (different model) Panasonic recorders. Is there a known problem with the C24 start and stop flags in the data streams from the Mux at Tapton?

Hi. The transmitter at Tapton Hill aka Sheffield (Crosspool) is a line-fed relay of Emley Moor.
Emley Moor is listed for Planned Engineering, so it's possible that whatever work they are doing there may indeed be affecting these Ch4 programmes carried on the PSB2 mux on UHF C24.
Unfortunately they never say what the work involves, how long it will last or which services may be directly affected, nor would any such effect get reported as a fault, though in any event trying to find reported faults for commercial stations is like getting blood from a stone!
Your best bet if the problems continue, is to contact Channel 4. Tell them your postcode and the fact that you are using the Tapton_Hill Sheffield Crosspool transmitter. I would not bother mentioning using an indoor aerial though, it might give them an excuse for saying you've got a weak signal or similar!
