Freeview reception at SY3 9BT

For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

The HD signals carry approximately 4 times the amount of data per programme as is the case for SD services. That's one reason that the transmission encoding has had to be changed to a more capable system, and hence the need for a DVB-T2 tuner for HD reception. There is a suggestion that a '4k' form of UHD transmission might become available and that requires about 16 times the amount of data compared to SD.

I there a fault on the Waltham transmitter today?

My Post Code is DE1, roof aerial.

BBC reception on (C49) was flakey last night with break-up. I woke up this morning and there was no reception to BBC channels on (C49), or (C56) (C57). ITV was stuttery and then about 07:40 that went to No/bad signal too.

Morning,

Further to my earlier post - still no luck.
1. Everything is as it was - aerial still in the right direction and all equipment connected
2. Have tried re-tuning with booster and without - makes no difference
3. Have tried re-tuning with VCR and without - makes no difference
4. Have unplugged aerial and re-tuned - still only finds West Midlands
5. Have tried manual re-tuning of all advised stations - finds a strong signal but does not save the channels (perhaps it's the TV???)
Any suggestions would be most gratefully received. Frankly I'm cock-a-hoop because it has obliterated the channel that features Fred Dibnah but my husband hasn't stopped moaning since it happened and somehow it is MY problem!!

Over to you experts.

Fran Shuttlewood : Try carrying out a "manufacturers reset" on the TV prior to following the advice given by KMJ,Derby as far as the "manually" tuning in of Oxfords Mux channels are concerned, as by you being located extremely close to the Woodford Halse transmitter, which is a relay of Sutton Coldfield, it would be nearly impossible for the TV "not" to pick up PSB transmissions from this station before Oxford by Woodford Halse transmitting on channels 25 - 22 and 28 (HD), whereas Oxford mainly uses channels in the 50 - 60 range with the exception of COM7, and Freeview devices always scan from 21 upwards.

By the way, "Manufactures reset" is also referred to by some manufacturers as "Default setting" or "First time installation".

As a recap on that said by KMJ, Oxfords Mux channels are : 53 - 60 - 57(HD) - 50 - 59 - 55 COM7(HD) 31.

simon: Since my kids have just been watching Tv using Waltham, and there has been nothing reported, logically its at your end. Could be a frayed cable which has finally let go, moisture in the system somewhere, etc.

If you look at the F's DigitalUK Tradeview box, the blue one just to the right of you name for your latest posting, you will see that Waltham is the least favourable transmitter for you as it is 75 km away and the signal will be weak or very weak compared to that given by the nearby Woodford Halse transmitter, which provides West Midlands services. Oxford is a possibility but that does not give East Midlands services.

Fran Shuttlewood : That said, and information given, was based on you having mentioned that you had lost your connection with the Oxford transmitter, the news services from same being : BBC One South (Oxford), and ITV (Meridian / Central (Thames Valley micro region), can you verify if this is correct or not?

graham: If your getting a signal to your TV via a digibox, check that the scart leads are connected properly - on scarts, if one or two pins are not connecting properly, thats what happens.
