Freeview reception at BB4 4QR

For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

Paul Tatler: It might be worth asking neighbours if they have the same issue.

I can't get any programmes on Channel 29. I am in the Waltham area (East Midlands) and have to tune to Channel 42 (West Midlands)to get them. This gives a weaker signal. Any ideas why?

I have been having poor reception with all of the ITV +4+5 channels for 2/3 months. I retune and they appear in the listing but when selected message just says channel not tuned?? some days I can watch for a couple of hours then it just starts to break up and the message appears. It only ever happens on the ITV programmes. I have a large o/s ariel only 3 years old, can you help.

Ken: Problems of this nature are frequently found to be experienced in an area rather than just one household, and so much as many loathe having to do this (and with good reason in some instances!) but you really have to determine if others are also experiencing the problem, because if they are then this saves you needlessly checking your installation.

A terrain check between Winter Hill and your location does not reveal any "ground" obstructions, this meaning with the exclusion of anything that might be on it such as trees or man made objects, and so nothing immediately stands out as being a contributory factor to your problem other than possibly some form of interference, although an iffy connection in an aerials termination box can sometimes result in a frequency specific problem.

However, as aforementioned you really have to determine if others are also experiencing problems before taking any type of action, but though in the meantime there is one simple test that you could try that is to carry out a signal strength / quality test on your BBC channel (mux C50) and make a note of the indications seen, then move to the ITV1 channel (mux C59) and as before note the levels being indicated, paying particular attention if the quality is seen to intermittently dive downwards, finally try the test again on ITV3 (mux C58).

Further advice dependant on results.

chriselda: It's possible you are getting signals from Stockland Hill. If the first multiplex comes in on C26, D3&4 will be on C23.

chriselda: Most of the aerials seen in your area are vertically mounted therefore indicating that the Charmouth PSB only transmitter @ 0.5 miles is the one used in your area, and although Stockland Hill is indicated as being possible the predictions given for reception from this station only indicate good on the BBC & ITV multiplex, the other four muxes indicating a rather low level of variable.

Although reception predictions can have a large margin of error they cannot be completely dismissed, and so I suggest that you have a look up at the aerial to see if its still mounted vertically, that is with the elements pointing up and downwards, and if it is then carry out another reset or "first time installation" followed by an auto-tune and see what results you get.

It would also be of assistance if you indicated the model number of TV or box you are using.

Hi JB, I've looked at the aerial and it is mounted vertically (like all the other aerials on the street). I've also carried out another reset followed by auto-tune but I still get only all the BBC channels on Ch47. When I try 44 it gives me 'no signal'. I've read somewhere that the booster shouldn't be on, but when i turn it off, the bbc channels are all 'flaky' it is a LG LCD tv. I don't know the model number but it is a quite new tv. What else can I do?
