Freeview reception at BD2 1EP

For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

There are 14 mobile phone masts within 1.5km of BD21EP (page shows closest 10)

What do the map symbols mean?

EE,  Multiple operators,  O2,  3,  Vodafone,  location on line-of-sight,  Selected location,  Freeview transmitter,  Freeview light transmitter,  Engineering/fault today.

These icons show the potential locations for 5G-at-700MHz services that may interfere with Freeview reception. For actual mobile device reception prediction (at 800-960MHz and 1710-2170MHz) see these phone operator's mapping sites: Three O2 EE VM

Daniel: The point is, as you alluded to, whether the issue is one of your building's communal aerial system or your own equipment and wiring.

Speaking to your neighbours is obviously one way of nailing it, although you have to ensure that they are using the terrestrial aerial system and not satellite (Sky/Freesat).

Have you tried swapping the lead from the wall socket to the TV? Swap the TV with a Freeview box. If you have a Freeview TV and Freeview box together, connect one and then the other and demonstrate that both are not working.

If it appears to be the aerial system then you need to contact the party responsible (e.g. landlord) so that they can get it put right.

Periodically my PVR and YouView boxes carry out software updates. However, I don't know that my TV does because I switch it off fully when I'm not using it. How do these software updates occur and how often? Should the TV receive an update? (It's a Panasonic 32" TX-32LMD70A.) If it should, how?

Charles Stuart:

softward update for your tv can only occur through at usb adaptor or Ethernet port.

so I wouldn't worry about your tv updating.

If you have issues with your tv and feel it software needs updating then you will need to download the software onto a USB stick then install manually onto the tv.

regards

Charles Stuart: Although Jamie is quite correct insomuch that you could download the latest software updates for your TV into a USB stick for purposes of direct transfer into your TV, but though that model you have does have a switchable automatic update facility for OA (over-air) download's, therefore you should ensure that this facility is actually active by following the undermentioned procedure.

Press "menu" then on the main menu select "set up" and then "system update" and make sure that "auto update in standby" is set to on.

You could if you wish just select "system update now" an see if anything changes, but its better to leave the TV on the auto update mode because should any updates be immanent a message will flash on the screen to this effect.

DTG weekly OA downloads can be checked from the info sent out on the website below, although the latest download info will not appear until Jan 13th.

Charles Stuart: To be honest, your TV is over 5 years old, and Panasonic is unlikely to be supporting this model any more with updates.

Its certainly too old to have a USB or ethernet connection. I just wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for the answers. The TV is showing its age and I guess that a new TV is the best option. It's just that I have no idea when I'll be able to afford a new TV. I have a low income and a cat that needs £51pm of medicine. I guess that I may be able to afford a new TV when the cat dies but the medicine seems to do its job and the cat keeps going. (I think a cat gives more pleasure than a TV.)

Charles Stuart: If your TV is working, why worry about replacing it? If you are using a PVR or Youview box with it the main function of the TV is for use as a monitor.

hugh ferguson: Both 553 and the +1 version 554 are encrypted as they are part of a Sky subscription package, but with both of being chargeable extras to it for anyone who wishes to view them.

Charles Stuart: I agree with KMJ - your TV is fine, and unless it goes wrong or you decide it needs to be changed, its OK (as I said, I just wouldn't worry about it). And I'm speaking as someone who sells TV's!

The reason your Youview box gets software updates is that its a much newer machine, where software patches and updates are useful, and of course its connected to the internet, which makes such things possible automatically.
